Went back to Rang Mahal about 2 weeks ago and it wasn't as good as the first time I was there. The curry prawn was not as fresh and a little mushy. I hope this is just a temporary thing, I really liked the food there the first time.

Same location that Malayasian Auntie occupied, but a male owner/operator. He bought and remodelled it and it now serves a more northern style of indian cuisine.
He seemed genuinely interested in my opinions of the food (this was around December 2005)

Malaysian Auntie had nice tasting food and very cheap. Unfortunately, every single time I ate something from her I got the runs. It must have been very dodgy stuff as I've lived in the sub-continent.

The place I have been several times now, Bawarchi, coming into Soi 11 from Sukumvit is on the right hand side, about 100 meters from Suk. Coming up from Grand president it is on the left about 100 m. I think the food is really good. A bit pricey but not extravagant. Tandoori chicken is first class.

Agree with RTB on Indus... where Whole Earth used to be on Suk 26... nice villa ambience, outside garden, pleasant coffee shop that sells Indian pastry.
Extensive menu (Tandoori chicken moist, spicy and excellent)... service is solid (owner/manager around most of the time). Dahl is somewhat soul-less, but the nan is top of class. Great option for Indian, about 500M south of the Four Wings Hotel. Parking for about a dozen cars.

After singing the praises of Bawarchi several times I have to report that I went back there the week before last the what was once the best Tandoori chicken I have ever had was dry, over cooked and bland served with dry over cooked naan. Went back two days later figuring I just caught them on a bad day and the meal was just as disappointing. I don't know what happened but something has changed. I may give them one more try in a couple of weeks and I will definitely speak with the manager if I have the same experience once again.

Most probably the Chef had resigned and a rookie Chef took over............ usually this is the case
