I am always very careful and picky when eating from street vendors as I have heard stories of dog being served, is there any truth to this?

i don't know how common it is in the big cities,but when i went my girls village,it was offered.
i declined.
but then again the meat we bought off the local stall was already prepared for cooking.

I will not accept the girl , if I come to know that she eats dog meat , even she offers her pussy free to me . In philippines , dog meat is banned officially , still philippinos love it . So the Thais are .....I am bit fussy about it . Never it food from a small joints.

The eating of dog and related butchering is largely confined to the province of Sakhon Nakhon in the far northeast.
Also in the big cities where there is a large Northeastern population and enough Sakhon Nakhon people represented...
It is against Thai law. It is an affront to Thai Buddhist values.
It is a Vietnamese and Lao cultural/ethnic influence.
Yes it still happens but it isn't, really, a THAI thing. Most Thais are disgusted about it.

On my first trip to Indonesia in 1996 during the second week when I was not so fluent on the language it has happened. I asked the people if this was dog meat and they said no, I imagine they had a good laugh while I was eating... I did not know I was eating dog meat, but I have eaten little of it as I did not like the taste! It was in Minahasa, a partly remote mountain area up north. There you are eating in food stalls where local food is served, the have the food displayed in the window on big plates and you just choose what you want. You eat as much as you like and of what you like, usually one or two mixed plates of all kind of different food with rice and after eating they tell you how much you owe them. Thereafter I questioned them again if this was dog meat and they said yes. What a shock...! And the chicken turned out to be bat meat...! In my remaining days there I became a vegetarian and discovered my love for instant soup. Now I know what colour and taste the dog meat has and I am not to be tricked again! As I am quite much into photographing market scenes I do also have some impressive photos of butchered dogs, still these are some of the most shocking photos which I ever took.

We are raised not to eat it and mostly our governments does not allow you to eat it. As for where I live, one Thai shop had bugs on sale, but they were banned after almost no time, as the government said these are not on the list of the animals allowed to be consumed.

Yes Bandit, I understand that. On the other hand, there are many other things that most governments do not allow but are eaten in other places -I have eaten Zebra in Kenya and Capibara in Venezuela. I just keep an open mind about it. If locals eat it and are healthy, I would try and then decide after the fact.

Thanks for your post! I understand this and somehow I have questioned this as well. I can live with previously having eaten dog, but I have eaten the.... Batman. While in Pattaya just two weeks ago, I visited the Crocodile Farm and they had of course a restaurant that served its meat. I did not eat it. On the other hand the sisters were shocked that we are eating ostrich meat...! This is what I wanted to say about being raised to eat certain things.
