In the August issue of GQ magazine (USA edtion) Bangkok was listed as one of the top 4 food cities in the world. Believe it or not, the primary cause for its inclusion was the street vendor food. He went on and on about the freshness of product and the diversity of flavors. I was just reading this on the plane figured I'd pass it on =) Oh, the other cities were Piedmont (Italy), Madrid and Los Angeles.

Actually, we have pretty good ethnic food here in L.A. Mexican, El Salvadorean, Cuban, Mexican, and South American, too. just about every type of Asian and Middle Eastern, and many Asain Fusion types, too. European foods of all types very well represented, by the way. Don't forget this: Great sushi, too.

The mexican food in LA is probably the best anywhere..even Mexico. There's a few small mexican restaraunts that I frequent in the LA area and they are fantastic and cheap. Not quite LOS cheap but very close and the ingredients are always fresh. Just go to places that the local mexican immigrants go to and you'll find the best of the best. The sushi is great around Santa Monica and little Tokyo but it's seriously expensive. I went with 3 friends and we ate a decent sampling of everything and some sake and ended up dropping over $100 each. : (. Chinese food is also a highlight in LA you can find awesome and cheap Chinese food in the San Gabriel Valley.

LA is now the number one city for new immigration to US. The whole world comes to LA and the restaurants reflect this. If you don't like LA, please, feel free to stay away!

Culver City has the best mid-priced Sushi I've ever eaten. High-priced stuff; I really don't go near it very often. It's the crowd and the server's attitude more than than food. Once a place becomes known and the "in" crowd wants a part of it, I'm outta there. Also, I've been to Mexico City and eaten some incredible food from street vendors and mom and pop places. I also went to my ex-GF small town (I have no feakin' idea where it was; about 4.5 hour drive outside Mexico City). The food was so fresh and had only a hint of heat, yet was loaded with a complex combo of spices. It was heavenly. I don't know if L.A. is better than that, but you can find some real gems in East L.A. and close to downtown.
