Hi fellas I've visited LOS, in particular BKK, 6 times over the past 8 months. This forum provided excellent info when I planned my 1st trip and has continued to do so on subsequent visits. BKK is addictive. My visits raised eyebrows amongst my mates and when I told them of all the fun I had, the lure of BKK proved irresistable and we are planning a trip for all of us sometime in October 03. Some of my mates are Malay Muslims and I am wondering where in BKK can we find Muslim/Halal food. I know of one located at MBK's food court and a couple of restaurant in the 1st few sois along Sukhumvit. There is a thread on Arabic Food/Cuisine but we are not particularly keen on having kebabs and what-have-you. What we hope to consume are Thai dishes such as Tom Yum Kung, Pat Thai, etc. Are there any restaurants which serve Thai cuisine which is 'halal'? Any ideas guys? Thanks in advance.

Shai, An excellent question. But I can't answer it! My TGF lives near the Muslim section of BKK, which is called Suan Luang, in the eastern part of BKK. You can find it on a map, if you haven't already. Soi Suan Luang runs sorta north-south through it, and connects to Suk on the south side. It's Thai Mulsim, not so much Arabic Muslim (lot of Isaan Buddhists too), so you may find what you are looking for there. - Balls

Balls, Just to check... 1) Is Suan Luang a soi or a district? 2) Does it connect suk at the early or later even numbered sois? That is if I hop onto the BTS, where do I alight? Asoke? On Nut? 3) Any landmarks as a guide? Thanks for the info btw. Shai

If you head out along Petchburi Road it eventually turns into Pattanakarn. in the area down into Soi 20 which has the Kassikorn Bank on the corner, there is a large Muslim community there, I can think of 3 mosques and to Islamic schools in that soi. (the soi runs down and then parallel to the main road before meeting soi 30). Take a walk down, you should find everything you want in that soi.

Yurune Is this area the same as Suan Luang or is it another area altogether? If it's the latter, then there are 2 places to check out. Cool!! The options grow. Looks like I've got to get my ass in a cab and tell the cabbie "Petchburi Soi 20" and that should get me there. Right??

Shai, I think it is further than that... you would have to tell the taxi driver, "Pattanakarn soi 20". If you happen to be on Soi 3, there is an Egyptian restaurant opposite Zenith Hotel. The serve Egyptian food, but they also have some Thai food in their menu. I see the Halal sign in arabic, so I suppose the Thai food must be Halal too.

The area in question is borderline Suan Luang / Khlong Tan. Suan Luang is a big area from On Nut, over to Srinakarin and up to Pattanakarn. Loads of Muslim restaurants in this area.
