i've seen several references to places with the name/description tawandaeng, e.g. isaan tawandaeng, and I am intrigued to know a little bit more about the type of bar/restaurant they are, where are they located, and any comments about food quality, prices, etc. In the past I've stuch to the usual drags of Suk. and Silom, and am thinking of venturing out further next visit

Can't find the thread you mentioned, Yurune, and I've spent quite a bit of time searching the forum using key words. There were a couple of entries mentioning these places. Anyway, a bit of googling came up with the following link in case any other readers want to know anything about the tawandaeng or other large bar venues with in-house brewery and live music

might be under restaurants
"where to bring a girl" or something like that
"micro breweries" or something like that
can truly recommend music, entertainment, athmosphere and beer quality.

thanks for the help guys, seems like my earlier thoughts are worthy of following up, and taxi driver advice is really helpful!!!
As an aside, I just realised that 5 December, the day I arrive BKK, is the King's Birthday. Does this mean that BKK becomes a ghost-town for the day (night) ??? The thought of having to wait 24 hours for my jet-lag therapy.......
