My buddy Mac and I went on patrol these past few nights to check out the action and this is what we saw:
Man, there are a lot of farangs in town. I haven't seen this many white people since I was back in the states. (LOL) While it's good for the locals, it sure makes finding poon much harder for us locals.
In two nights, we saw 6 different girls we had shagged and they all had guys. And any really cute girl we hadn't seen before was with a guy already. Mac & I were expecting a new crop of Isaan girls, but we haven't seen that many new faces worth chatting up. Good thing we have a stash of mobile phone #'s of girls to call during times like this. I'm actually bringing down a girl from Bangkok for a visit because the pickin's are really slim right now.
But for you guys coming on vacation, the good news is that the town is rockin.
Tiger is open and doing good business. There's no cover charge and no ID check. The music is fantastic. Lots of techno to keep the crowd bumpin' w/some hip hop thrown in. Plenty of free lance thai girls all around. usually in small groups. Sometimes you have to wade through the crowd to get to them or for a closer look because the lighting is so poor. Personally, I avoid the scrum on the dance floor unless I'm really drunk and stay up in the balcony and watch the action. If I see someone I want to check out, I'll take a recon patrol down to the floor, but usually I meet some girl on the balcony. Last night was this Angelina Jolie looking girl who came up behind me and we just started talking and dancing. It was that easy.
With the opening of Tiger, business has dropped off in Tai Pan & Star World. Like Banana, Star World tends to attract more farang couples while Tai Pan still gets plenty of thai girls. Banana was absolutely horrid. They charge 200 baht to get in, so very few thai ladies will go there on their own. There were actually old farangs in there dancing. Definitely avoid this place.
The bars along Bangla were all busy. If you go out early, you can probably find yourself a 'date' for the night and take her out on the town.
After the bars close around 2:30am, I checked out Soi Sansabi and there were mostly lady boys and some ugly, old thai women. During low season, there are usually some cute girls available, but not anymore. Better have your beer goggles on if you still want to get laid. And if you're smart, you'll send her packing before the sun comes up.
Went out to Safari and found that place to be really dark & scary. If you're out w/your mates or have a girl already, it's a place to go and keep drinking, but I didn't see many ladies worth chatting up. And it's so dark it's hard to see them anyway. Up on the hill is the 'House of Secrets' and it was like a haunted techno house. Weird.
So, hope this info helps anyone planning a trip. I know I had fun checking things out, and I'm sure you will too.

Jaybet3, mate you must be on another island, I have just got an e-mail from a mate of mine who owns a bar, beach rd and one from a mate of min who is there Now, they say things are still not the same as this time last year.
Things are still quiet in Phuket and there are still plenty of ladies to go about, confirmed by a phone call as I`m posting

Can absolutely confirm what you state. My mates in town give me the same info. Not as busy as previous years, which suit me right. Phuket during last SARS scare was the place to be, nice and quiet. I like the party, but it came to the point that town was over crowded.
Buisiness in the bars is still off by an approx. 25 %.....
Jaybet3, you state no girls to go around for the punters in town..!!?? Definately another island.... There are so many to be find, even when the place gets busy. Take those beer goggles off and look around mate!
02.30 AM is too early for Soi San Sabai, the girls come after their last drinks at VIP or Tai Pan... normally around 03.00 it starts getting better. The girls you saw are the daytime regulars there, I guess.

What a relief to read the 2 replies here. High competition for the (goodlooking) girls in Patong would have been a absolute bummer and a totally new and (unwanted) LOS experience !!

Personally I hope the masses stay away. IMHO, BKK is for the crowds and fast paced excitement and Phuket is for kicking back and relaxing. With the rise of tourists over the previous years maybe this downfall was a good way to shew them all away.
With the exception of the rough surf, I prefer Phuket during the low season.

I think Jaybet3 has a "low" refrence point to start from, my last trip only 4 weeks back was way quieter than normal. Still plently of TG's but not like 12 months before.
