I like the look of this hotel but all the internet prices seem to be way above what is reasonable for this place and I wondered if someone could check out or knew of the walk in rates for this place for around May/June? Anything over 1500 Baht just seems ridiculous considering the number of options you have in Patong nowadays.
I know its next door to thara patong where I stayed last year.

That depents in what you want, you added mized to you nic so you'll have to live with you price/value issues.
Now I can tell you the the Salathai is NOT Lady Boy friendly... I took a room there once and found a hottie LB at KFC on Bangla in the mid day and decided to have a whirl....No way could my Darling get in to the hotel!, I just checked out right then and there. Seems like a nice place, is you stay away from the LB's that is!

The reason I didnt want to risk my usual hotel (thara patong) next door was because Ive heard a few times that it is no longer girl friendly and of a bad experience I had last year. However I like this location. With so many restrictions imposed on Patong I hope that the number of decent mid range girl friendly hotels isnt decreasing. Girl friendliness however isnt top of my list of priorities in the hotels I like to stay at. Location, location and location....oh yeah and a big pool...and price are right up there at the top of my list.

You get what you pay for.
I stayed at the Salathai in January. Poolside deluxe room for 2900baht inclusive.
This really is a very nice place to stay in Patong. Great location, good pool and girl friendly (as long as you book for two).

Thara Patong
Is Thara Patong still guest friendly? If not is there a joiner-fee now or is guest just not aloud to enter the hotel?
Hope that somebody can help I have already made a booking for Marts and now I have read that they have a new guest policy? If it not I will cancel the booking.
If Thara not the place to stay anymore, what will be the best alternative? I am looking for a mid-rang, guest friendly hotel, with nice rooms and a good pool with night access, located not that fare from the action. My budget is about 3-4.000B a night. Probably asking for too much but I hope that somebody can help me.

Ive checked and unusually Salathais low season prices dont begin until the start of May. According to them the beginning of low season now begins later in the year in Patong at the salathai.
As for thata patong I have it on good authority that Thara now charges between 600 and 1000 Baht joiner since the heating up of the ongoing crackdown (from last October). Considering you pay 3 to 5000baht a night anyway for an 'ok' room, this place is no longer looking as attractive.

Thara is guest friendly. I send an Email asking and this is the answerer:
“ The overnight visitor are FREE of charged but if your guest wants breakfast you have to pay an extra at 200 Baht per person.”
So I am going to stay in Thara after all I like to have the pool just one step out of my terrace door for some night “swimming”, but for my next tour I well tray the Salathai Hotel it looks graet.
