Has anybody stayed at this place? How is it? Is is girl friendly? How is the location and surroundings? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Stayed there 2 years ago. Very upmarket (read expensive) as are the connecting resorts, and well away from the the main nightlife - a good 25 minutes in taxi to patong. Nice apartments and a nice but quite beach. Also a nice golf course. You have to pay extra to use facilitys on the connecting resorts (such as the swimming pools).
I would not stay there again mainly because to far away from the action, and unless you are prepared to travel your meals are going to cost you to.
The surrounding resorts are even more upmarket but more expensive also. Nice place if you want to impress someone though.
Not sure if guest friendly, seemed to be all couples and familys during my stay.

Though you did not ask, I did stay at the Banyan Tree Resort Hotel which was very nice!!
If you do stay at the Allamanda Laguna, pls post your thoughts on the hotel.

Thanks for the info, and I will be staying there, so I'll give you an update in a month. I was fishing for JW Marriott Resort & Spa on Priceline. But, the big fish didn't bite, damn it, I ended up with this guppy. LOL Well, those are the chances you take. Still paying less than half-price compaired with their posted internet rates, but I was aiming for the Marriott!
Should be safe, they don't have a Mexican Restaurant. LOL. Guess I'll have to rent a car, or 2-wheeler.

Look forward to your report. But, from the looks of this place, I'm not sure i'd call it a guppy!! ha ha ha!!
I guess you'll be makin' "a run to the board" and goin' to taco-hell before you leave for bkk. wait. is that considered mexican food? okay. go to chevy's instead, unless you are drunk and starvin' marvin, then you can get those 'wananabe" taco's at Jack in the crack @ 3am!! ha ha ha!!
Alright. I'm audi. time to finish work and go home. too much sh_t and too little time!! ha ha ha!!

I stayed at the Allamanda a few years ago and I thought it was a little dumpy and wished I'd spent the extra for the Banyan Tree or Sheraton? next door. It is convenient that you can dine at the other resorts in the hotel and perhaps even use their pools which are nicer (I'm not sure it's technically okay to use their pools, but I did).
When I say "dumpy" I don't mean filthy or run-down, just that everything seemed a little dated; it certainly wasn't bad enough that I was thinking about changing hotels.
There was also a higher than average (in my experience) percentage of Indian, Russian and others from countries with weaker economies (although I'm sure these guests were well off respective to their compatriots).
My impression is that bringing in discreet guests woudn't be a problem, especially since the layout is very open (no central lobby). I wouldn't bring 3 katoeys and a couple bottles of scotch to my room, however. (Well, not again!)

I won't expect much then, so I probably won't be disappointed. I only got this booking because I saw on the biddingfortravel web site that some people were getting JW Marriott for a $41 USD Priceline bid. I thought that sounded pretty good, too good to be true, I guess. 
Well, you pay your money and take your chances. This may be the first time I've gotten burned using PL, we'll see.
Anyway, I think I can live with a ban on katoeys. LOL!

Been there Nov 03, nice place,however a bit far from the beach-you will need to take a shuttle bus (running every 10 minutes) to reach the laguna bay at Sheraton or Dusit hotels,and dont have it's own fitness center..but if you planning only sexecuse so it's just fine...
About bringing gals to your room: ask them for golf facing room-this way you dont need to see reception at all and you have small semi-private pool just out your window.

Thanks for the tip, rami. Booking thru PL, I think I'll have to accept whatever room they assign, but I'll ask anyway. From their web site, they seem to have three types of pricing: fairway view, pool view, and lagoon view.

So you need fair view or pool view, facing dragon pool, this one I know..cause slider pool is too close to kids club..
