Thinking of going to Patong in February, how does it compare to Lamai on prices and action?
I was in Lamai early this year, had a good time, nice and relaxing in the day on a quiet beach, in the centre of town for the nights action.

IMO Patong is much better than Lamai. But depends what you want?
You mean better for BGs? LBs? FL? Discos? Beer Bars?
Bangla has so much more atmosphere.

Not really into LBsor Discos, can take or leave GoGos, like BeerBars especially if live music rather than techno.
Like a nice quiet hotel yet not too far from the nightime action.
I think it's nice to chill in the day and build your power for the evening.
Lamai I like but it is a bit of a one road town and it is very difficult to get up to any mischief without the bar beer grapevine swinging into action.

Gus, you want to stay at Kata beach. Very nice and not overrun with tourists like Patong. No problem to get a taxi to Patong fromthere and a tuk-tuk back at night (300B, tuk-tuk mafia). The BeerBars at Kata don't have much there, but Bangla has 4-5 sois loaded with them and a few complexes outside of Bangla.

if you want secluded beach, stay in Garun beach
they spell it Karan I think, but it's pronounced more like Ga-Run
there's a Hilton there, 4k/night, f***in' beautiful place

Can agree with the above. The Hilton Phuket Arcadia is a favorite of mine. Always stay there the first couple nights.
