Since about 14 years I am Phuket-fan "Die hard" and went there at least two to three times a year. Last dec. 26, I arrived there just after the airport re-opened. Later I realized that many familiar Thai faces were gone and I could'nt really amuse myself like before no more.
After that I proceeded for a few days to Pattaya not to escape Phuket but just to add some spice to the nightlife which was about gone in Patong last january.
I have to admit that I had a good time in Pattaya but does'nt taste the same way as Patong nights used to be.
Next month may 15, I will arrive again in Bangkok and have to choose for 4-5 days wether I spend them in Patong beach or Pattaya again. Ok, I know Phuket can really use my spending Euro's and I would be happy to do so but I don't like to sit in the room all night watching the trouble in the world on CNN.
What will I choose.... Pattaya (and save a ticket to Phuket) or Patong Beach.
I am a real party animal, who enjoys to stay out as late as possible. Which place will have possibilities post 2.00am ? Which is my best bet guys ?
Any input highly appreciated.

volcanic activity in indonesia is a clear sign the earths crust on that belt is still troubled....The 9.3 and 8.7 quakes measured recently, the first producing a wave that made it to phuket. I saw that wave hit on a dvd. And as much as I hate to say it. You wouldnt catch me there (phuket) while the possibility of another wave is strong.....The Gulf which where pattaya lays is protected from that activity. The night life here is in my opinion very extensive. By day you can head out to the islands with a cutie. Theres lots of affordable eats, music, go gos and girls...but its an individual thing, risk your arse and help phuket, or enjoy pattaya

that was an all encompassing opinion on Phukets vunerability, you make it sound like the whole island is to be swallowed up in impending disaster.
There is infact more to the island Phuket, it isn't 1 huge long beach vunerable to Tsunami, I wonder what is the percentage of island damaged in the last disaster, bet it is around 2%.
The only reason I said Prattaya was that I am off back home to Phuket next week and I prefer less tourists..

percentage of island damaged? I watched a thousand people in an instant get swallowed up at the beach by a 25 foot wave that hit fast. Alarm systems and all might get you in time were it to happen again. I think (as I said) that volcanos coming to life on that fault belt, and two large quakes less than a few months apart, are indictive that its still a good chance of a third quake. Scientists are infact sure of it, but cant say if it will be next week or 20 years. My girlfriend wont go because of ghosts....i wont go because why swim at a place that could well get nailed? I have thousands of more p4p girls awaiting me in years to come. Plus word is so many (girls shot through) It hasnt the selection value anymore.. Give it time....but phuket is finished as an asian tourist destination (ghosts) And westerners already aware of the insurgents in the south looking towards western targets (possibly phuket) Now have to worry about a wet arse from a tsumani? Nah too much downside thought....stay in the gulf..eat shimp that hasnt been chewing the bones of some fat bitch that got washed away. I Think the seafood factor stinks in phuket now....I mean its a fact hundreds were washed out to sea unrecovered and eaten up in the food chain...the rotting flesh fed on by the shimp. No question....too mant people died, bad vibes man......Pattaya is just a murderous sess pit..much nicer..the sewage isnt smelling as bad...and now we have more russian whores to steal and drug you..its no contest!

Much better selection in Pattaya than in Phuket.
Pattaya is cheaper and is closer to Bangers.
Many more venues in Pattaya and there is always bars open in Pattaya.

just spend a week down there in phuket. Got
really angry about those hords of police bastards which rip the foreigners off at any street corner. Paid penalty for not using a helmet even I've just moved a few meters inside the soi. Paid for riding motorcycle and had left the license in the bungalow..., penalty for riding to fast... - shit, the way down there from phuket to karon beach they checked me up almost 7 times, I cannot agree to this kind of " what they call ensure safety "... - bullshit, those bastards tending to rip people off and eat money as much they can.
Bottomline, guys this is totally unfair and no doubt - people will stay away from Phuket. Not for the reason it is not safe there, more for the reason they not want be threat like that ! At least to me...

Over Easter I visted Pattaya for the first time in along while. It felt more like a big city to me than than a seaside resort.
Yet, I still find Phuket so relaxing, Sure Asian mass tourism is down for now, but it will come back. In the meantime wealthy Asians are building lots of extremely large new homes.
We have a house right on the sea and are not worried at all about another tsunami. On December 26 the wave didn't quite reach the support structure for our deck so we believe that we will quite safe in future. Yes, we are aware that many Asians are worried about the phee (ghosts) but we haven't seen any lately late at night on the beach.
The Patong Beach front is now about 75% rebuilt and there are many European tourists around enjoying the place. The nightlife is great without the Asian hordes. Lots of friendly girls/guys who are looking for a date. Come on down and enjoy.
