Hi, Wonder if anyone can provide some info regarding the Surin Beach Resort. Website said it has not been affected much during the last Dec. After seeing so many persons here commenting about the truth told by the website I am being skeptical. Can anyone advise? Regards, Jack

Surin Beach was hardly affected in comparison to other beaches. Just the topography really.

Jack. never rely on reports, just see for yourself. i remember at the time the BBC reporting from Patong and painting a picture of destruction. problem was they were right on the outskirts of Patong and nowhere near where the Tsunami hit and what they reported as a scene of destruction in the background was in fact an abandoned school which had collapsed and had been like that since I first saw the area in 2001. but they were telling the UK people that this was a result of the Tsunami. i was on Phuket last Month and Patong for sure was up and running and had been since the Day of the Tsunami. Yurune can confirm that the place was buzzing.

I thought the place was pretty dead, if there hadn't been the large influx of people that I told you about, then it really would have been quiet. I remember sitting in Soi Eric thinking if you took all the gilrs away, just how few people there would be. There was a huge amount of damage along the seafront, a lot had been repaired and a lot hadn't, but I think as we all know, the stories of Patong being devastated were gross exxxagggggerrrrrations. That said, it was also no small event there. Khao Lak and Baan Naam Khem were the places of real devastation. kamala was hit very hard

agreed. the Seafront was still showing signs of the event but the Thais had done a good job in getting down to work. didn't take long for all the tailors to get back in business. when I say buzzing I mean for the time of Year,May/June has always been a favourite time of mine to visit as I can celebrate my Birthday in style. always few Tourists and plenty of Girls and that's the way I like it. the place was roughly same same as previous visits in May.

Unfortunately the local authorities in Kamala are taking a dreadfully long time to fix up the seawall and southern end of the beach. The Thai wat has been landscaped thanks to an Aussie TV program, but it probably won't get maintained properly. Patong and Surin beaches look fine, but unless the local people in Kamala pull together and get some action, the local economy will suffer next high season.
