its strange in warm water diving I prefer not to wear a wet suit but for muff diving I do prefer to have some coverage . I wouldnt wear a full suit but I would say I wouldnt wear a shortie either.

I'd wear a suit or a heavy body suit as much for the protection from scrapes and dings as I would to keep warm. The waters are very rich in marine life and hence have lots of little micro organisms that will make a little cut become very nast over night.. I go without gloves but have them in my B.C. pocket incase I need them. Where do you plan to dive in Thailand? I've been to Pattaya, Phuket and Similan Is.....

I plan on diving around Phuket mostly but I did find one dive operator who did Day trips to the Similan Islands.

Day Trips to Similans....Was that the one who has a 1.5 hour car ride up the coast and then a boat ride...I think that cost for a 2 tank dive is more than a day of Liveaboard. Phuket Dives...I've been on most of the dive sites a few times and I really like the Racha Ya/Noi trip because you get more bottom time. They are all long rides and many deep so there is little bottom time, Ugh! If you haven't done the Shark Point, Anenome Reef, King Cruiser and night dive at Koh Doc Mai go it.... I'm going on something new next visit. Ocean Divers has two tank trips out of Patong to the west side....I'm going to give it a try. With a 7:30 P/U and often you start your first dive at 11:30 (4 hours from hotel to water) out of Chalong I hope to discover a good way to dive...The west side trip gets you back 4 hours earlier....

Check out Andaman Scuba too. Did a liveaboard with them to Similan and a couple of day dives. They had one day dive 3 tanks for $40.

If you have the time try to stay a few nights on PhiPhi. Dive shops all over the island.
But I still think you should try to visit Hin Daeng/Hin Muang.
5star PADI and a great place to see Whalesharks and Mantas. Similian and Richeleu Rock is a better place with Mantas but...
A shorty, a speedboat and then you are complete for some underwater action :D
And if u gonna be a muffdiver *lol* how to you fit the suit over the tounge ...

While reading posts in the delicate question thread, it made me wonder how strict Thai airline is on excess weight for baggage. I believe their website says you are allowed 20KG . Have any of you been hit with excess baggage fees for dive gear and what did they charge you?. Many thanks as always for the help!
