I stayed right next door at the Expat hotel (which is crap, moldy towels, 4 tv channels, but does have a pool that is occasionaly visited by bar girls during the day) not long ago. But it isn't as quiet as you think. There is a disco right there (think the name was Paradise) which puts out some thumping reverbs till quite late.
The walk to Bangla takes all of 5 mins. And there is a cheap laundry right in front of the Expat.

stayed here on the spur of the moment 2 nights ago. it is a complete dump. I would never recommend this place to anyone. The place is filthy and completely worn to the bone. Visual - rusted out toilet that was not flushed, dirty bathtub, no shower, fuzzy porn is your only tv choice, dirty walls and floor, ac is loud. I checked out first thing in the morning and the person was asleep on the floor. A complete dive...
