Try "Tony Home" up on Patak Road East (2:nd road) in Karon Beach.
ST-place or not - they used to have clean and VERY cheap rooms. (300B/night a couple of years back.)
Ask in "Tony Bar" on Patak Rd West (Beach Rd) It is the same owner.

we were at the Hilton (f***in' fabulous) out in the middle of nowhere, but there were bungalows not too far down the beach
or so one of the waitress staff suggested to me, since she said she'd be fired if caught in my room at the hotel ;-}
just before I was off to meet MPG - My Premier GIK on her arrival
