Can you let me know which hotels have lowered their prices as Ive een trying to find a reasonably priced hotel for February and if anything Im being quoted far higher prices than what their prices are shown on the internet. I even had one hotelier tell me that rates had gone up because of hotel room shortage (which I know is a load of crap!).
I am booking rooms now for mid-january.
I think it is fair to say that there is a lot of confusion (naturally) - some prices have been updated on the net, some have not - some places have adjusted their rates, others have not got around to it yet.
My advice would be to leave your booking for a couple of weeks. Many tourists have not cancelled their holidays yet because they have already pre-paid. Others think that as things have got back to normal in Phuket, tourists will rapidly return. Also note that Chinese NY - super peak time in Phuket - falls on about the 10th of February.
I am just booking up rooms in mid-january for about half of full published rates (these are reasonably high end rooms though).

State of Bangla Road as of today,10th January.
Nearly everything is open again. Certainly all the Sois with beer bars are running as normal. Naturally tourist numbers and girl numbers are down on what they would be. Even the shops nearest to the Beach Road are now being repaired and re-opening.
I have been to Bangla Road the past few nights and unless one has been there at this time of the year, then it would be hard to know that anything had been amiss.

Dear Hugh,
You seem to have good informations about Patong and you give news in the different post-tsumani topics.
I have decided to maintain my holidays in Phuket in february in spite of the troubles. I think it is a good way to support people in this part of Thailand. But I want to know what will happen. Do you think the number of girls will be big enough for the punters who will be on the scene during the next weeks ? I have seen I can forget Christin MP ! Do you think the other mean to meet girls (beer bars, FL in discos, etc...) will be available for us in good conditions, ?

According to board members of the phuket-info forums. They say that the bar girl situation in patong isnt good as many girls have left for home or other tourist areas not affected by the tsunami. Its really difficult to know what to believe so just go and try and have a good time anyway...tourists are the only reason why bar girl numbers will return to patong anyway.

I was at the Mai Tai bar last night and various other bars in all of the other Sois.
I was with an Aussie guy that I had met the day before and we were hunting together.
The bars get livelier from about 10pm onwards. Even at 2am there were plenty of girls available. RTB is correct. Although many BGs either went home or to other resorts, the punter numbers are also way down. The surfers anthem, 'Two girls for every guy" underestimates the advantage us blokes have quite massively. I had a really beautiful BG tell me at 2am that she wanted LT rate of 2000 baht. I just laughed at her and told her to get real. Take 1500 now or risk get zero baht later. I walked away from her and in the next bar was a really lovely girl that looked 19 but said that she was 27.
I had a fantastic night with her on the understanding that if her performance was poor I would give 1000 and if it was good, 1500. I am happy to say that I gave her 1500 baht.
It surprised me to hear her response when I asked her how long she'd been in Patong and she said she'd been here just one week. So there you have it. Some allegedly butch, gung ho Forum Bros are afraid to come here, but a little BG arrives a week after the Tsunami from Isaan for the first time, when lots of her sisters have left for other places. Either a really plucky little lass, or the response that she's been here just one weeks is so automatic that she didn't realise what that implied. I wonder which one it was? She was also inexperienced and wanted me to teach her as gently as posible about what Farang guys might expect her to do. Don't you just love them?
Perhaps it's crass to say this under the circumstances, but for me, it seems as if I'm in Paradise Central.

Hugh is/was there and telling us what is going on as regards to the Nightlife.
i see many things said by people who are many miles away but are telling horror stories.
do people really think that there are no Girls in Patong?
jesus,if anyone went there tomorrow and f***ed 10 Girls a Day it would still take many Weeks to f*** them all.
i have been in contact with BG's and bar owners I know and they tell me that there are too many Girls and not enough customers.
they are getting poor and all their buffaloes are dying because no kind Falang will f*** their brains out and give them 1000.....
