I'm curious.

For those of you visiting Phuket and staying in hotels that have been traditionally girl un-friendly, have they become girl-friendly with the recent drop in bookings?

IE, has the business climate changed their attitude for the better? Or are they still best avoided by punters?

It doesn't come out as a spray. It comes out like a faucet, just a stream of water. I didn't like the even stone flooring of the shower.

The pool is pretty cramed in between the next building, rooms, and reception but looks really cool.

Does anyone have info about Patong Premiere Resort ?
http://www.phuket.com/patongpremier/

It is where my favourite hotel "SV Phuket" used to be (Patong: 118 Rat-U-Thid 200 Pee Rd)
Is it the same property?
It looks well refurbished and, obviously, is now more expensive than before... but it would be a pity if they changed their great staff and their cool policy with costumers...

does anyone know how long it will take to walk to Bangla Road from the Blue Ocean resort?

Addy

I have stayed at Blue Ocean Resort two different times. The first time it was great. Yes, the showers are annoying. It is a waterfall type of shower and while it might seem cool it is quite messy. The water basically floods the bathroom floor and although there is a drain next to the toilet it takes a while to drain. The girls will hate this because it is almost impossible to take a shower without getting your hair wet. On my second visit the rooms had a nice mildew smell and I found it to be a little too much. I will not stay there again even though I know and like the manager. The walk to Bangla is not bad but it can be difficult to find the hotel after a few beers if you don't drop bread crumbs along the way. One more thing. Had one of my more memorable non p4p moments while staying at this hotel. We went deep sea fishing one day and brought the fish back and gave our catch to the manager. She invited us to her place for dinner and we followed her up to a Thai resedential area. She cooked and we sat around a picnic table and watched the girls get ready for "work". The food and atmosphere was a nice glimpse into everyday life for some of these girls.

Hey Bro's,
Just got back from a week in Phuket - Kata.
It was awesome - the beaches look great - tons of fish for those who like to snorkel - great looking BG's at the Rock Hard at the far entrance of Bangla.

People are as freindly as ever -and business is definately picking up. I was stuck in traffic in Patpong - it was the only time in my life that I was actually happy to be caught in traffic- me and the cabbie laughed and agreed.

Took a long boat and poped in and out of some secluded beaches - Bannana Island - Lamp Sing - Rawai - Freedom Beach, I could go on and on. The water is pristine - the beaches are immaculate.

I was amazed at how quickly repairs have taken place. Some damage is visible but NOT detracting from all the beauty in Phuket.

Go and enjoy - I most certainly did !

Calzoid.
I'm glad that you had a wonderful time on Phuket. Even by the time I left on 18th January things were looking much better. I bet that you were treated royally. People there would be so damned pleased to see new tourists arriving. Now is probably a great time to go there, isn't it?

Addy 007,
I don't know whether the Tropica Bungalows is open yet, but I stayed there in June 2003 and had the happiest 2 weeks of my life until then, my first time in Thailand following my divorce. I was on Phuket from New Years Eve until 18th January and out of sentimentality, went with my GF to see the Tropica. When I saw the devastation that had been caused, my GF was touched to see tears streaming down my face, I was that upset. There used to be a fantastic traditional Thai built restaurant specialising in fresh fish dishes there. Residents of the bungalows would eat breakfast there, sitting there looking out across Beach Road to the shore. That restaurant was totally demolished and just a flat area of rubble left the bungalows exposed to view from the road. The trellis covered little drive up to the reception was also gone. The gardens surrounding the bungalows used to be so densely foliaged that you almost needed to hack your way through with a machete to get to your own little piece of paradise in this tropical oasis close to the beach and 30 yards from the end of Bangla Road. Most of that foliage was either gone, or was dying from the salt water. The lovely pool was filled with debris and the wave had killed all the birds in the aviary, including those 3 peacocks.
However, the bungalows and reception building were intact, just in need of new furniture and bedding. I expect that fairly soon, the restaurant building will be replaced and that they will probably buy in half a rain forest from a garden centre and replant the gardens. It will undoubtedly take 2/3 years until the greenery begins to be established enough to restore the former glory to the place.
I hope that you have a pleasant stay there Addy, if it's open. If you stayed there before, I'm sure that your reaction would be the same as mine. If I had booked it and it was open when I was there on the Island, I would have stayed there still, just because they obviously needed that business badly and I could gladly sacrifice a little aesthetic displeasure to help them, as they were such lovely people.

Sitting on bangla rd sipping a Singha and trolling the forums...

Beach Rd: North of Bangla Rd escaped rather well since all those buildings on the beach side took the worst brunt of the wave. The flashy places is still open on that side. On the south side of bangla Rd the destruction is more pronounced. Most shops are closed but a few restaurants is still open. Some even share space now.

It's great to see the locals. They are amazing.

Bangla Rd then? Beach end has some broken stores but as soon as the bars begins, almost everyone is open and life here looks just like late november. Not that many people but still action here.

Soi Gonzo, Easy and Eric are very.. quite compared to real high season. But still nice to visit.

Christine is still closed and will be for a long time, what I have heard.

Here and there locals set up small shops. They claim a few meters of the sidewalk and show of their goods. Still the same crap as always: glasses, sport shirts and wooden crap.

But it's nice to see the reaction of the people. The kind if sick twisted humor they have coping with reality. The T-shirt:

2001 Bomb Scare
2002 SARS
2003 Bird Flu
2004 Tsunami
What next ??

great buy!

Currently in Phuket and think it's a good time to be here.
I've got a great room at half price, there are still enough people to make it lively and good ratio of girls to guys. Even getting good prices without bargaining too much when buying stuff.

Come on in, the water's fine !

Show some respect!!!

People have died and you are going there to have fun?????????? Don't be so shallow. How would you like it if you're wife had drowned on Patong beach and you hear some one wanting to go back to Phuket for cheap hotels bargains and whores???

Disgusting
