Nice view on Phuket.
Got a decent show at Suzy Wongs. A little aggressive on drinks. Even had a Mamason just order one on me when I walked in--was a little pissed and told her I would have spent plenty of money there if she did not do that.
Did complain or advised in a Phuket chat room--actually recieved a PM from the SW owner stating the first drink on him. And that he got rid of the offending mamason.
Will give SW another chance when in Phuket.

Wokka1, you say you're on a tight budget during November - this is the beginning of the busy season so any off-season specials may not be available but do a little searching here & you should come up trumps as far as affordable accomodation recommendations
Should you go a month earlier may I recommend the C&N Resort & Spa. They have a special 3 nights for 2590THB - probably better deal for longer. A top Hotel. Pool, quiet (6 guests the whole time I was there), GF, 10 minute walk to Patong beach, or if raining you could take the 'broken record' "THB100" baht bus or taxi driver. No doubt they put their taxi price up come November - These guys seem to run a cartel - they'd rather go without than go below THB100
And I do recommend the C&N Hotel after the joke Hotel I had just being staying in - The Patong Merlin Hotel. The only advantage it being right next to Patong beach. However... it was an over-booked Aussie family hotel. My mate asked for a room on the second floor - we got one on the first. The joiner fee was THB800 and was noticably pointed out to us on arrival (the bastards). A late check-out was not available because full up, service was generally BAD! A family complained they booked for 2 adjoining rooms but got 2 separate rooms - and why did they take the booking if what they had asked for wasn't available. At this time the girl at counter decided she 'couldn't understand their English' and decided to ignore them, & I couldn't be bothered telling them it was because of their MONEY. I think the Qantas brochure had sucked in too many people here
But the subsequent move to C&N had diluted these bad memories after a day
I must admit I missed the action available early on in the day like in Bangkok and Pattaya with the ladies available from midday onwards (Beer bars, Lolitta's etc). Bangla road was very quiet up till 9-10pm)

We are locked into our travel dates because of work commitments but have shopped around and managed to get what we believe are reasonable deals. We are aware things may be more expensive, particularly in Patong but that can't be helped.
We set our accomodation goal at an average of 1000 baht per night per person and we've managed to get that. (on average) for 24 nights. Majestic suites in BKK, Swiss Hotel in PTX and Jintana on HKT.
We wanted both a pool and walking distance to Bangla in Patong which is why we went with Jintana. Majestic gets pretty much good reviews across the board whilst the other two are well thought of on other forums i've checked out. Plenty of other places get good reviews too...but choices need to be made and you can only stay at one place at any one time (not withstanding the use of short time rooms should that be neccessary for whatever reason.)
It's always a gamble especially given the vagaries of dealing with Thai management and last minute policy changes but at time of booking everything was no joiner and hopefully it will stay that way for the rest of the year.
If we make it out alive i'll post reports. I think the quality of jintana will be of particular interest given guest friendly and quality accomodation doesn't always go hand in hand in Patong.

Nice report wokka. Good tip about the international license, I'll be sure to get one before my trip in May. I never bothered to get one while in Pattaya, but your intel is helpful for my return trip to Phuket.
Also, don't take this wrong, but compared to the PI and Cambodia, Thailand's infrastructure is top notch!

When you are in Phuket and are driving around, Take your international driving license and use youre helmut.
The police will check and fine ( Farang and Thai ).
It is the same as back home.
