I spent a very pleasant evening in Soi Eric last night and was amazed at the numbers of Thai girls compared to farang men in there. At a conservative estimate I would say there was "eight girls for every boy" at least.
However, after speaking to ladies at two different bars it appears that soon many of the girls will leave Patong for Bangkok, Pattaya or home as they cannot continue to stay here and not make money. So the unbalanced situation will probably change - all the more reason to get down here and enjoy it while it lasts!

I live in Rawai and drove down to Pratong only a few days after the event, there were tourists back in the sea and on the beach just 3 days after! the bottom of Bangla was buggered but half the street was open again, Soi Sea Dragon was up and running.
I am away at work now but my bro in law says it is all very quiet down there, more like low season

Patong beach is pretty much deserted due mainly to the fact that the government have now ruled that there shall be no umbrellas or sun lounges on any of the beaches.
Personally, I didn't mind paying 50 baht to recline in the cool shade whenever I went to the beach but now I must somehow take my own - a bit hard on a motorcycle!

They didn't rule it out for all beaches, just Patong and one other (which was either Karon or Kamala, can't remember which). But that is already being debated as well. Went to Kata Noi and it was gorgeous, clean as a whistle, looked like a tourism poster. The chairs, umbrellas and annoying beach vendors are already back up Laemsing (spelling?) beach. Kinda of a drag, as I was hoping to have a quiet afternoon there and instead got the usual bother every 5 minutes to buy the usual crap.
I don't mind the umbrellas, I sometimes use them (always if with a girl) but I wish they'd be restricted to 50% or less of the beach strip.
And to add my 2 cents to the whole "what is the girl situation like?" debate going on. Yes, there are still lots of girls there when you compare them to the number of tourists. But a very high percentage of these girls are older or "not so fit" (as in fat, for a thai girl). The overwhelming majority of the better looking girls have moved to greener pastures in Pattaya or BK or whereever. I was in Patong for a couple weeks in December, then returned on Jan 9th for 5 days. The change in the quality of girls available was quite noticeable. Then again, as everyone has different tastes ymmv. Personally I like childless, slim toned girls 22-28 years old, and there were damn few to choose from. I sometimes had to hit 3 or 4 bars before seeing a girl I'd like.

I arrived in Patong on december 26 ! and returned to Bangkok on 27. (see my other post under the "Good luck to all those in Phuket") Since I am so much affected with the people in Phuket I returned to the scene in Patong on january 4. While I was relaxing on my towel at the beach, I was approached by a young chick asking me if I was planning to go for a swim. Actually I was'nt but when such a cutie ask, who can resist ? She told me that she was afraid to swim alone, so off we went in the warm clear waters of the Andaman Sea. She in her underwear, I am in my bubbled shorts. We had great time together just being among no other tourist within eyesight.
I stayed untill january 8 in Patong Beach which was indeed very quite but that has its own charm to me.
Tai Pan was still good fun with enough chicks around AND open untill 3.00am. Still wander who the two tall blondish Thai stunners are who I met there. Anyone knows who I mean ? Guaranteed no LB's ! Hope to be able to catch up with these gal's next time early may more intense !
The bar scene in Patong was very boring however. Not to compare with low season either when there's still some action. Still, I want to go back ! Oh Patong I love you !
