Nonsense? Quite the opposite. VERY accurate and there is much evidence for this. So much so that "the Mob Mentality" has been studied by social scientists for generations (as I suspect you know  ). Not only does the group provide cover for the abberant behavior it even promotes and exaggerates it.
I've always felt that the very worst sins of humankind (racism/ genocide/ lynching/ riots etc.) have arisen at least partly from this.

Smegma and MrJoe are very correct in their assessments. ÝI would just like to add that some of these servicemen are young and experience. ÝThey may not even be old enough to legally drink in their own country and it may be their first time setting foot on foreign soil, so if you mix youth, inexperience, alcohol and mob mentality together, there bound to be trouble.

i have been in 2 war zones and seen things people should'nt see.
we know that the scandinavians do not want to get involved in the 'war against terroism',but on my part,neither do i.
but the Americans are determined to go for it against Irag,and i will get involved.
i don't want too,but i will have no choice.
i don't know what you do for a living now or in the past,but think of people who will have to be involved against their wishes.
it's easy for people to sit at home in front of the TV and cheer on the allied troops.
think of those who have been there and will have to go again.

This kind of dialogue is exactly why I wish we could leave nationalities out of it. I don't see any need for it and there is little possibility of something positive coming from it. If people didn't start pointing out the faults of certain nationalities (as they see it) or even making gentle jibes there would less likliehood of nationalistic comments or political ones. This has happened on three threads so far.
I love discussing / arguing politics and I do it with freinds and on another board, but IMHO this forum isn't the place for it.

No harm meant, but now I do not quite understand... Are you relating Baltic to Scandinavia and do the same mistake as he in his second post? In his post he should have said I am from the former Soviet Union almost 1000 miles away from Moscow. And yes, in my opinion we can leave the political stuff out of this forum.
