Hypershade seems to forget something. Some men who are members of the upper class, or the upper-middle-class, like to have sex and fun with young ladies simples and/or vulgars who are only available in the bars, brothels and streets, notably but not only in the third world.
For me, stunners in MP's are a little bit boring, snobbish freelancers in fashion nightclubs of Paris or BKK are insipid... I like plump and chubby girls with flashy clothes and boots who like to drink beer and to joke ! Where I can find them ? Not in France where prostitution is fighted by government and now only practised by "escorts" on internet ! (Some can be in my taste but difficult to choose and find.) In some FKK in Germany, in the red district of Amsterdam, ok ! But the better atmosphere is in Thailand or in South America where hookers are often truly kind and cheerful...
In France we have a great tradition concerning men's love for vulgar prostitutes since Toulouse-Lautrec's pictures and Maupassant's novels in the XIXth century. Before, in the XVIIIth, it was the same : Aristocrats, philospohers or writers (for exemple, Restif de la Bretonne) were sometimes fascinated by the erotic power of young and shameless street's girls.
So, the atmosphere in Patong is not very distinguished but I can find some hot ladies, not the more beautiful, but those who make me horny because of their sex-appeal (big tits, big ass, chubby belly and young smiling face) and like to party with me with beer and fun...

Personally, I think Hypershade is just having fun with us. Either he actually is one of those overweight, underdressed, bald old men who prowl the haunts of Patong and other places of questionable repute OR he knows he will eventually be one some day.
Tell me..... what hi-so Farang would/could be frequenting a board like Bangkoktonight.com ?? An authenic hi-so is already dating or married to a model/actress in his own home country.

An evening in Patong once in a while is a lot of fun. I usually bring my own bottle of wine and consume it with dinner at once of those outdoor restaurants set up behind the Tiger Disco (perhaps Number Four). Often I have some wine left over which I will offer to my table neighbours.
After dinner I might take a foot massage before chatting up a TG or two at one of the Bangla Road bars.Still later I will check out the Tiger Disco and then if I still haven't hooked up with a petite ami, I might look in at Taipan.
Sure, it not quite one's usual surroundings but why not have a bit of fun? The chance of meeting someone that knows me from Hong Kong is fairly slim.

One of the best threads on the forum for a long time. Whatever anyone thinks of Hypershade's views, they're well expressed and open up lines of discussion.
At a time when the forum is stagnating through lack of personalities, I welcome this kind of thing.
Oh, and yes, Pattaya is a shithole full of tattooed thugs.
The first time I went I vowed: 'never again'. The second time, I had to revisit to see whether I hated it as much as the first time. I did. My third visit was to doublecheck that feeling.
My fourth and fifth visits will, hopefully, clarify things further.
If not, it's not too far to do go back to do more research.

I am a frequent visitor to Pattaya, this last trip a week ago opened my eyes a bit! It appears that in some area's that I loved so much, unless you have a criminal record or have done jail time, you don't "belong". Inner London has moved 10,000 miles east and is now residing in Pattaya, at least parts of it.
IMHO...... Pattaya is GREAT for daytime drinking and activities, but my heart is moving quickly towards Bangkok for Nighttime fun!

Aside from the tattooed oafs who inhabit the place, I understand that the sea is badly polluted. So why go there to a Beach Resort where you might catch a disease from swimming in the sea? I can't understand why everybody raves about the place. Hypershade infers that it is even more brash and vulgar than Patong, so why would any self-respecting individual wish to visit there?

Seriously though, it is a very unique place in the world. I mean where can you find a red light district that is 2 miles long by 1 mile wide with 15000 ladies on staff ??
Sometimes you have to hold your nose to get at the gold.
The fact that it is very cheap and draws a questionable mixed crowd is just one of life's little tradeoffs.
