Just curious about your complaint on Patong's expensiveness. I was there in November with Loknar and we thought the place was dirt cheap. We've heard others complain too so I'm just wondering if people were going different places than we were.
In general Patong and Phuket are far more expensive than the remainder of Thailand. Compare the prices with Bangkok and overal Phuket is more expensive for everything. Do not look only to what you pay for the girls but to the overal package. You'll spend a lot more in Phuket. Lived on Phuket for quite a few years and now life in Bangkok.
And...... you get what you pay for......

Just for good sakes order. Star Club (previously Shark, Star Wars, Star World) is not open anymore. It does not look like it that it will re open again, not even under another name.
The new place on top of Soi Easy, Dragon Disco, is the new place in town.This huge complex is not drawing enough customers to make ends meet.
It seems that the amount of tourists in Patong, or at least the amount of spending tourists, is declining. This contradicting other figures saying that there are more arrivals at Phuket than other years. Where do they go??

Maybe there are more tourists but also more bars in Patong than what there used to be?? Maybe the new zoning idea will sort this out by eliminating and reducing the number of bars and concentrate all tourists to bars on and near Bangla. Dragon disco will inevitably do well if this was the case. I think a lot of bars arent making best use of what tourists are there. Maybe dropping drinks prices a little etc would help?
Torq, I think Manuel BKK answered the pricing issue quite well. For the number of tourists that there are on Phuket the hotels, bars and girls shouldnt be charging as much as they are, especially considering most hotels and bars are under-occupied with only a select few at full capacity at any one time in the year. The beach at patong (as you pointed out) is not worth making the trip for but the whole patong/phuket package is, but only just. Year on year prices are rising in Phuket compared to other tourist areas of Thailand. When you reflect between Phuket prices and what yo get for your money in Cambodia, Phillipines etc it really puts things back into perspective. Prices in Phuket may be cheap to westerners but to the rest of asia they are certainly taking us for a ride and back!

OK i'm talking about a few Years ago and this is old news,but I always found Patong cheaper than BKK and I found the prices of the drinks and Girls in Patong went down each Year.
stayed in a Bungalow with 4 rooms for 700 per night,bargain in my eyes (1st trip was 900).
drinks everywhere were 100 for any sort of drink wether it be water or whisky.
BF was 500 my first trip and this never changed but the price for the night was lowered on further trips after the 'how much you want' talk?'
but being the person I am I paid what I thought was right and overpaid,but could have got it for much less.
but in BKK I paid more for Beer,the Girls wanted more money and only S/T.
now I know I was in Patpong and not the best place to go for a night out after reading the Board.
i know many of the residents could take me and others to many places where the prices are much more acceptable.
but as a newbie in BKK I felt I was being in ripped off (and I was with a local),but as a newbie in Patong I thought I was being treated as a customer.
that is why I would return.

You are and were wrong with your observations. It might have been the clouds of alcohol and love which blinded you. Let me summarize:
- The bungalow you stayed in has been described by others as not worth the money. It was neither clean nor 'great'. (I lived a whole 2 minutes from the place and I think they were right.) Even B 700 buys you better accomodation in Patong and Bangkok)
- Beers and other drinks in Patong were B 100.
Up to now beers are Baht 90 at Patpong, Bangkok. Prices did not go down on Patpong... Prices have been going up steadily on Bangla in Patong. (In both Bangkok and Phuket you can buy a Heineken at 50 Baht during the day, or 70 Baht during the night)
- Barfines are still in many places 500 Baht in Bangkok. A few are charging 600 Baht. Patong tends to raise the barfines. A few years ago the standard was 400 Baht, then 500 Baht and now a lot are asking 600 Baht. You always stated that you paid 2000 baht for any girl, being it ST or LT. This will buy you any girl in BKK and Phuket, a few exeptions down the road in both places.
I know Patong very well and could take you around to places further away from Bangla with more lower prices for your beers. Bangla has in general high prices compared with the rest of Thailand. In Bangkok I, and others, could take you around town and show you numerous places were beer is cheap. Also, in my previous post I was talking about the complete package, Phuket is definately more expensive!
Sorry to rectify but you might give the wrong impression for brothers who will visit Phuket in the future. If they want to save money, not go to Phuket but go to Pataya instead. When you look for cheap beer and cheap woman, this is the farang place to be.
Before you jump on this post, let me invite you for a round of drinking in both Bangkok and Phuket. Drinks are on me......

For Bangkok we start with 100 Baht unlimited Chang at Nana or 50 Baht pints of Heineken at Irish Exchange. Then to Charlies on Soi 11 for 50 baht Heinekens. Gulliver next for 75 Baht. Over to Patpong, all GoGo's with 90 Baht Heineken. And then to Nana GoGo's.....125 Baht.
On Phuket........ you know where the beers are cold and only 70 Baht all day long?? Or first a few draft beers for 45 Baht at the PS hotel. And after 2AM a large bottle of Chang for 35 Baht at 7/11. (Oops, that one is gone)
Does the listing all the cheap drinking places qualify me for Cheap Charlie of the board or does it make me an economical drinker?

Are Bar fines really 500 baht in BKK.?
In Patong there are a number of places with Happy Hour and those places keep changing. Always to be found! 70 Baht Heinies is a ting of the past on Bangla at night. I'm not a day drinker so don't ask about the stuff. Post 1600hrs sounds the starters gun for me but I can tell you that my Patong Faithful pals say the bar fines are still only get 200 Baht even on the "gold digging" Soi Eric. Are there others nicking you a bit more for a sorte into the nickers of a bar maiden, possibly so. What is missing in Patongo are the lovely Bier Stubes of Bangkok ala Soi 7 and down Soi from Nana. Prices seem to be much better in Patong even though that is negated by the Air Fare of 130USD or 170USD for those of us whom choose to travel business class. Plenty of chepo places to sh_te, shower, shave, a sodo up a good time with a Bar Maiden. Not even a sniff at one of the most important issues in master-debaiting the merits or demarits of the Merrimant of the two very different Sanook Zones is right infront of you little nose.. Yes the smell of fresh air.
and the comfort of a breeze. The device of "Play Water"
splashed down of a good month as April is a schorcher but compare a hot BKK night to the same day in Patong.
I know of aninfoamous poster whom drops 75 USD per night during low season to have a private pool area infront of his room just to cool off the Boom-A-Matic-SoiMaidens before he turns up the heat! Is Patong cheaper, sans the air fair you can get more for a Cheap Charlie that in BKK because it is just plain nicer! And last time I looked nicer is better!

Wrong thread for this but in my recent experience (I am conducting a perpetual survey, not partaking of course!). The following "loosely" applies,
Patong, open Beer Bars it was 300 Baht pretty well universally
Patong, closed Beer Bars it was usually 300 Baht but had been asked for 400-500!
Rock Hard was 600!
In BK, nearly all the Go Go in NANA are 600! Same for Patpong. No experiance at Cowboy. OTOH, they are asking 1500 in some of the high end Bars in Soi 33 (Monet). Many were more than 1K!
