Just returned back home from LOS and decided to buy a one-way ticket BKK-HKT which gave me the chance to leave Phuket for Pattaya whenever I was up to it.
However I enjoyed Phuket as never before ! I even extended my initial booking with a few more nights. I am glad that I did'nt opted for Pattaya.
During the day Patong is a little quiet but that is exactly how I wanted to be. At night, beer bars are very quiet with exception of the front of Soi Crocodile (of course). Tai Pan and Tiger rocks ! Even Banana starts to be a lot of fun again. I met a few stunners from Phuket Town there and enjoyed the night throughout. Tai Pan remains open untill 3.30am. After that, I made it a few times to Safari which is busy but not really my cup of tea.
Man, I got good times in Patong again. I am trying to get back in august but definitely I'll be there again before the 2005 is history. If only to see my stunningly beautiful hotel receptionist who rewarded me with a fantastic night out on her day off. Unforgetable...

Wondering what Phuket is like, with regard to sanuk and general talent. You seemed really happy with your visit. What was the action at Tiger Bar and Banana? Am in Pattaya at present and wondering where to go, Bangkok or Phuket. Pattaya seems a bit too hardened by the tremendous development. Any information and suggestions would be welcomed.

Newbie here with a similar dilemma.
trying to plan out a trip for the 1st week of April for myself & a buddy of mine, & looking for some suggestions on how to plan my itinerary. This is the first time either one of us will be going to LOS, so we really don't know where to start. I've read up on some places to visit in BKK (nana plaza, soi cowboy), but wondering how pattaya compares, & how things are in phuket as well.
i'm pretty much looking to party hard for the first few nights in bkk, then do some sightseeing, & then wind down towards the end w/some r&r (of course r&r with hot gorgeous women all around is that much better).
is 3 nights enough time to fully experience what bkk has to offer, & would you recommend breaking up the remaining days between pattaya & phuket, or no?
in other words, is it worth going to pattaya at all if i'm already planning on spending a few nights in bkk & in phuket (patong beach) ?
what can I get in pattaya that I won't be able to get in those 2 locales? is the quality of the female talent any better in pattaya in comparison?

drunkentiger,,, I would suggest it would actually take several years to "fully experience Bangkok",, 3 days and you still wondering what hit you on the first night and why you paid 5,000 BHT but your buddy payed 2,000.
I would probably give Pattaya a miss and split your time between BKK and Phuket.
Pre sunami the talent in Phuket was pretty good and prices reasonable.

MG, thanks for the reply. I'm totally psyched for my trip. I get conflicting opinions from friends of mine who've been to both places. Some tell me pattaya's the place, some say phuket is where I want to be. I suppose I'll have a kickass time no matter where I go.
Any places in Phuket that you would recommend to start off at? (btw, just for reference, I'm not interested in any LB's or anything like that... I do hear though, that it's tough to tell the difference sometimes... hopefully you can reco a place that the LB's don't normally hang out in to minimize the risk factor)

Went back again last december/january.
Each time I can make it to LOS I split up a few (usually 3) nights pre-Phuket and a few nights post-Phuket. Last december was no difference and I did'nt regret that. Phuket has so much more to offer in all terms, compared to Pattaya unless you want 100% mongering. The quality of the girls in Phuket is IMHO much better too. Definitely the place to be if you're looking for a non-pro which is so much more fun too. Had several "affairs" with travel agents, receptionists and so on during my past trips. Treat them nice and you'll have a fantastic time.
Can't wait to be back in paradise by the end of next month again and be with my lady again (a tall top looking receptionist of a high class hotel in Patong).
Sorry guys, can't provide more details as you probably would understand.
And yes, I split up my restricted time between Bangkok and Patong Beach again.
The perfect combo.

I've always been a big fan of Pattaya but having been to both Pattaya and Patong in the last month, I'd say if you have to make a choice between the 2 then go for Patong.
Soi Eric is a good place to start off, plenty of cuties around there.

Asianatic - If you don't mind me asking, are the women in Patong that friendly that even the non-pro's will hang out with tourists? Or are you just there so often that you've developed a friendship with some of the locals?

DT, I did BKK, Phuket, Patt xmas and new year. The more I explore BKK the more I like it.
Phuket was nice and mellow stunning vista's I would take a gal there to have fun, of course its not hard to pick one up butI lost the plot there for a short time see Phuket FR.
Patty is cool, a whoremungers delight, it is a blast with the right attitude but not somewhere I can stay a long time.
Just go have fun and tell us all about it.

Yes, during the past I have indeed developed a special relationship with a number of non-pro locals which untill now I still am in close contact with.
The first years (early nineties) when I went to Patong, I was already so excited with this heavenly place on earth, that I was addicted right away. Went to all the bars, nightclubs each night chatting with the ladies and ending up in my hotelroom with one (or some) of them. Great fun indeed. You know the stuff...been there, done that, shagged a WOW lady.... Fell in love with this Asian beauties.
The past 5 years or so, I find it much more pleasant and definitely more excited trying to convince a non-pro to come out for dinner with me, trying to date them or whatever different from paying barfines to mamasans. Of course going out for dinner or whatever is extremely easy with all the bar girls but less with a local or non-pro.
Going for the non-pro's, specially these working in hotel business are not easy to get. The result however is so much more rewarding. It takes time. Sometimes days, weeks or several visits to LOS before they trust you.
Don't get me wrong, I go out each night barhopping till about midnight, usually at the same spots where can witness that I never take any lady and later I am always to be find in one of those legendary disco's.
I find it a lot more fun to talk and dance with the gals, give them a drink but refuse their services when it comes to the point. In some way you'll get a look by them as a high-class (don't mean to upgrade myself) guy who has "good heart" and believe me you'll get much more attention the next day when you meet the girls again.
(please note that I never offer any money to them as this make their face broke - non pro's that is.)
Talk with them ! Invite them for dinner, ask her out for a day trip or even offer them a trip with you to Bangkok as I did a few times. This always works. Believe me...no better shag then a free shag. Ok, I know not really free since I pay their dinner, boat trip or even ticket to Bangkok but heck a lot more pleasure and rewards !
One more tip... dress properly, shave and use a good perfum. It makes a hell of a difference and girls who dine with you will be proud to be with you.
