Hi Manuel.
i have always visited in Low Season (once during Cobra Gold) and and prefer the empty Bars.
i like being the only customer,that way there is no trouble getting the Girl you like to join you.
i hate that sometimes you see someone and try and get her attention but she is looking at everyone,just looking for her Man for the Night.
but as I normally had a regular Girl in regular Bars,not really a problem.
you are right about me not knowing about Monkeybar,after my time.
where abouts is it?,which Bar/Go-Go did it take the palce of?

TJ MonkeyBa (not baR) A GoGo is on the left side of Seadragon (when entering from Bangla). It did not replace an existing GoGo bar. There were, if I remember right, two small shop houe bars previously. It is between previous Sphinx (now Octopus) and Pink Panther. It is approx 6 shophouses into Seadragon. Owner, Terry, is previous DJ from Marine disco in Pataya and has been long established in the entertainment industry in Thailand.

Many places are struggling in Patong, many places for sale as well. Thai logic boomed the prices and had many leases on bars (like Soi easy) ending at the same time. Prices rose more and many threw the towel. Result is that many bars are either shut or on a very short term lease.
Nokna, Patong is not the same Patong you knew. Remember the good times you had but do not conflict the present situation. things change fast.
This said, I still love Phuket, including Patong.

thanks for the info.
it could possibly be on the site of the old Sports Bar.
this was 2 doors before PinkPanther when entering from Bangla and had quite a large frontage.
i know the owner,George sold it in around late 2001 and he bought a small Bar opposite on the other side of the Soi.
come to think of it I seem to remember a Go-Go there when I last visited,but never had a look in.
as you know I had my regular places and I rarely strayed from them.
pretty boring of me I know,but if you like a place then why not visit every night?....

Yes, when I was in Patong in June 2003, it was deserted. You might recall that SARS in Asia, (but never in Thailand), allied to the start of the natural monsoon low season, decimated the tourist numbers to what I believe was a tenth of their usual low season traffic. And although it was only my first visit to LOS, closely following on the heels of my divorce, I had the best time of my life!
Because of the low tourist numbers, everybody wanted your business. Prices at the hotels and restaurants were great. The air fare was a bargain! More to the point, prices for the girls were great too. I expect that there probably weren't fewer girls than usual, so simple economics ruled. At virtually every bar you passed, half a dozen girls rushed out and tried to manhandle you inside. I was in paradise! I always preferred Long Time and that was no problem either. The girls were only too happy to go LT as they were unsure as to whether they might get other ST clients later. So I'm with Nokna on this one. Which is preferable, the full-up resort where prices are higher and choice is limited, or the off season, where every client is valued and treated royally? As to Playschool, I loved it. they had some lovely girls there. Perhaps I'm just subconsciously kinky about young girls in school uniforms! TJ's Monkey Baa (correct name and spelling apparently) gogo was also good and he's a great bloke. It was 2/3 doors nearer to the Bangla Road than Playschool,on the same side. Anybody going to Phuket should visit "The Fab and Funky guide to Phuket" website as required reading beforehand.

For what it is worth, I think the poor performance of the bars/gogo bars is largely a reflection of the massive growth in the freelance scene (I think you can see similar trends in BKK). Look at places like Tiger, Taipan and Bananas, they are all packed. There are more places like this on the way.
I think that most of the punters prefer the freelance route - makes it a more GFE - feels like picking up a girl in a disco. With mobile phones you simply dont need to meet a girl in a bar - you can meet her anywhere anytime. As the AIDS conference says... it is 'Access for All'

Also the fact that Patongs gogo's do not have any kind of showing (in general and please dont post the names in public of the odd exception) adds to thier demise...
In Pattaya the gogo drink prices are not much inflated on the beer prices (though of course a LD is a LD) but in Patong there is a noticable difference between drink costs..
So if you are not getting much extra (as noted there are FL's that look as good as the GoGo girls) and your paying more.. The cheapskate in me tends to opt for the beer bar and FL / Disco action...

I tend to agree bar beers and FL action at Taipan, Tiger and Dragon seems better than the go go scence.
Re Monkey Baa, Terry is a good man and girls quite good at his bar.
Some girls I know there said to me that Monkey now has a LB working there.
That is a pity for what I thought was the best go go in Patong.
Monkey Baa is clean with no ripoffs from the cashiers or waitresses.
