further to my earlier comments.
obviously Phuket might have problems with 20,000 visitors arriving tomorrow,but now is the time they need our money.
i for one would not hesitate in going if I was scheduled to arrive tomorrow.
Phuket is not just about the Girlie scene,it has many other types of business and without the tourist momey how are they going to get themselves together and sort things out?
i don't imagine Toxin will be pumping millions into the area to help the locals.
every 5bt will go some way to help them in a small way.
Patong is not just Beach Rd,there are many other places to eat,shop and sleep.
and I have to agree with LivinLOS about the Thais getting things together.
saw Pics of a friends Bar in Soi Eric and it was a mess.
but after he,his Family and his Girls worked their arses off they were open on Sunday.
not as normal but they made the effort to make a show of how they would still provide something for the tourists.
yes it will take time for the area to get back to normal,maybe many Months but I would still not hesitate to go tomorrow.
i wish all the people living and working there all the best in their efforts to get back to a normal life again.

...i was just watching and listening to an English tourist talking to Sky news from Phuket, and he said, he was on the 5th floor of the hotel, and as he looked down into the pool, there was a tuk tuk and a shark there...!

If do find it odd that we are getting ZERO reports from Myramar (Burma). Not as if that country doesn't have a coastline for a majority of the Northwestern edge of the pennisula.

There have been some reports here in LOS about Burma. I believe a bridge collapsed there and I think there were casualties. You make a good point, though, given the location.

My condolences to all...next trip is to Phuket.

Don't be sure, with Phuket carrying 40% of Thai tourism, there's a strong motivation to do something to help the area recover - especially with elections around the bend.
