Nok and i waited at the platform for the train and it was late.
waited and waited and Nok took the opportunity to talk to other Thai's.
i'm always amazed at their friendliness.
in England,no-one chats to strangers,but the Thai's chat to anyone.
i sat there with a couple of large bottles of Singha and went to get us a snack to keep us going until the next morning.
i'm sorry to say i let myself down and bought a load of doughnuts from Donuts-R-Us.
train arrived and Nok studied the ticket and found our carriage and we boarded.
first bad thing happened,we had numbered seats and found out they were not together and i cursed the hotel employee who had bought them.
we sat together,but some pushy Thai woman got a little animated,i was in her seat and asked if i would move from her seat and i had to move and sit away from Nok and i was a little pissed.
the train moved off and we were apart,but i assessed the situation and saw not many people on the train and got Nok to sit with me.
watched the suberbs of BKK pass and then i found out why we had different seat numbers.
each ticket indicated a sleeping berth and we obviously had different 'beds'.
found out the seats we were sitting on were the beds.
an employee came along and started to make up the beds and that was a bit of a downer,only 9:00pm and we had to go to bed.
no choice,all seats became beds.
i was not tired,too early for me to sleep,too used to being in Go-Go's until closing time.
each berth was for one person,but not for me.
i wanted to sleep with Nok and we cuddled up in one berth.
it was so cold,we kept all our clothes on.
Nok,like all thai girls was soon asleep,and i read my book for a while,and when i tried to sleep,it was a very interrupted night.
eventually slept,but woke up early and i got up and tried to use the toilet on the train,soon gave up,not a good idea.
just a hole in the floor and it was difficult to have a pee with the train rocking and rolling from side to side.
how on earth do the women cope with the squatting down?.
by now everyone was getting up and still 2 hours to Nong Khai.
the staff came along and started to put away the beds and when they realised Nok and i had slept together,they told us off.
'bed for one person',you bad falang.
spent 2 hours looking out the window and saw nothing but rice fields.
this part of the world seemed very rural,but i was looking forward to arriving in Nong Khai.
finally arrived and i was surprised how large the town seemed and modern.
from what Nok had told me,i was expecting something quite primative.
off the train and i certainly attracted a lot of stares from the locals.
she went to phone someone and got very upset because the phone kept swallowing her money and she could'nt get through.
she went off to find another phone and i looked into the distance and just looked at the country of Laos and remembered the Laotian girl i had spent a bit of time with on a previous trip.
Nok returned and said we must go,but i said we must buy return train tickets to BKK.
but she said no,we must go now and i was perplexed,i wanted to buy the tickets,but she was adamant.
i thought she was phoning her family to tell them we had arrived and to pick us up.
but we got into a tuk-tuk and off we went and i then presumed we must be going to her house.
travelled for around 10 minutes and then she suddenly shouted at the driver and he screeched to a halt and Nok jumped out urging me to follow her quickly.
we then procedded to jump on a bus and settled in our seats.
again i was attracting a lot of stares and did find it a bit disconcerting.
Nok bought the tickets and noticed the 2 tickets were quite expensive and this surprised me,as i imagined things would be cheap in this part of the world.
i then spoke to her about return train tickets and she tried to explain something to me,but sometimes she could'nt explain in English and she asked for my Thai/English dictionary.
she got quite frustrated as she looked through it and obviously could'nt find what she was looking for.
by now we had been travelling for around an hour and i was getting a bit worried.
we were going further and further from Nong Khai and by now road signs were beginning to lose the English on them.
finally Nok found what she was looking for and pointed out 'bus' to me and i then presumed we would be returning to BKK by bus.
but by now i was worried and concerned,for no matter how many times i asked her where we were?,where we were going? and how long would it take?,she would'nt really answer me and more then once i threatened to just get off the bus and returned to Nong Khai,but she frowned and just said not long.
after 3 hours we finally stopped in this town and we got off and were immediately approached by a man who kept pestering Nok about something.
she kept waving him away and to get away from him,i suggested we go for some food and she was agreeable.
had a fairly good snack and very cheap.
when we finished,Nok was looking for a phone and we were soon joined by the man again and they spoke for a few minutes and then she nodded and said for us to go with him.
seems he had a car and if we wanted to go anywhere,he would take us.
but i was surprised about her family not picking us up.
after about an hours driving,Nok was asleep and i was getting worried again.
where the f_ck was i?.
i know it sounds stupid,but thoughts of being kidnapped and held for ransom flashed through my mind.
what was going to happen to me?.
after 90 minutes driving,Nok asked the driver to stop and we got out on the edge of this little village..........
