UK killer gets suspended sentence
PHUKET: A Briton who confessed to murdering his Thai girlfriend in Phuket in January has been freed on a two-year suspended sentence, a British newspaper has reported.
The Exeter Express reported that 48-year-old Mark Leighton Storey was back in England, a free man despite confessing to charges of killing his Thai girlfriend, 30-year-old Rattanaporn Pimkot, on January 16.
A local source familiar with the case, who asked not to be named, confirmed the accuracy of the Express report, which stated that the Phuket Provincial Court had looked favorably on Storeyís plea of self defense and had sentenced him to just two yearsí imprisonment, suspended for three years.
Storey, a self-made businessman originally from Wales, moved to Phuket last year and lived with the victim for three months before killing her.
At the time of the murder, neighbors told police that they had heard the sounds of a violent dispute. When the noise stopped they saw Storey leaving, carrying his luggage. After he left they entered the house and found K. Rattanaporn lying in a pool of blood.
She died on the way to Patong Hospital. Storey was arrested soon afterward at Phuket International Airport, apparently attempting to flee the country.
He admitted to strangling K. Rattanaporn with a telephone cord and stabbing her with a kitchen knife during a fight after he learned that she had a Thai boyfriend.
A British Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokeswoman was quoted by the Express as saying, ìOur understanding is the sentence is such because Mark successfully submitted a plea of self defense. But if he puts a foot out of line during that time [the period of suspension] he will go directly to jail.î

Kind of a harsh penalty, don't you think? Perhaps people in Chicago agree with over 600 murders a year. Maybe a lot of lying going on there huh?
But, oh boy! Reverse the roles and imagine the outcry.
Aint nothin more 'practical' than the 'whiteman's' view of justice for other folks.

Self defense? ÝWas she hitting his knife with her body? ÝHow many time?
I think it's kinda hard to claim self defense when you have strangled a girl with a telephone cord and stabbed her with a knife as well.
I have to agree with FM, if the roles were reversed, I bet the girl would not have walked.

I can see that many have not had the pleasure of a good LOS sneak around Darling. Shite, I know a gent who had a girl back in the U.S. for 8 months. Sending money home to help the family etc. Here is the kicker, his apt got robbed twice just before her "dad" died and needed a ticket home...Opppps, Some of his camrea stuff turned up in a Pawn shope...yep twas the little darling who pawned his goods.
Another reason to stay in places with room safes!

Nokna, haven't spent much time in the place. Attended the Party earlier this year and learned that a counter girl, who I was trying to get a date with is the bosses darling.....

I had a girl in Chiang Mai recently who had a husband, she spilt her guts when i pressed her about a problem the night before and she would not go long time. On the second night the boyfriend was waiting for her outside the disco and she was hustled into his car and sped off. When I rang her to see what the go was, the boyfriend answered and he was pissed off. I asked to speak to the girl and he refused calling me all sorts of hurtful things, So I told him I f_cked his wife last night and he wanted to return and kill me. I guess I would have felt the same, but pissed at 2.30 common sense sometimes is left in the in room safe for safe keeping.

Speaking of common sense, while I certainly can understand heated words in the heat of the moment, but did it ever cross your mind that instead of rushing back to kill you, your words could just as well have gotten the girl killed...?
You know, I don't know of any one situation, where 'mai pen rai' would not be an appropriate response - yours certainly would have been.
So, she left with her boyfriend/husband... big deal. Was there a sudden shortage of girls in Thailand that day?
