Bros, I was trying to find out which hotels were obtained through priceline in the Patong area. I checked out Biddingfortravel.com, and the only 2 hotels received in Phuket were the JW in Thalong are, and Andaman resort (not sure where that is) I will be heading over there mid Jan 2004. The price online is quite expensive. So I'm thinking of bidding on Priceline......somewhere on the beach.....where have you guys stayed through priceline?

why are you so intent on Priceline? have you seen no other websites which give info on 100's of Hotels? and from 500 Bt a night and totally GF. come on Jagsbb, you've been a member for long enough to understand how things work. i used to have a recommendation, but as people who have never stayed there have said how bad the place is and not to stay there I will leave you to push those buttons on your keyboard and do something as easily as a SEARCH..

For a first timer that doesnt know the lay of the land, it can be daunting to determine what is what over there. For example. All hotels will have a stock photo of the beach even though they are a ways away. We stayed at Tropica... not 600B / night but right across the street from the beach and GF and right next to the action. I think we paid 1750/night and they dont charge credit card surcharge when pay with CC. The thing that matched the forum comments about Tropica was. Yes, I did get chewed on by Mosquitos but I got some spray for that and if you keep the door on the room closed they wont come in. Maybe this is the price you pay because the hotel grounds are very lush vegetation and very jungle like. very cool. Also, they never gave us the "free" breakfast.... big deal... I got one down the street for a dollar. Make sure, on checkin, that they write the rate down on a piece of paper and sign it or something so there are no suprises later on. We were under the impression we were going to get a free night because we stayed there > 10 nights. They laughed and smiled when we tried to collect on it. I think it was a low season deal on the web that had expired. I have also heard the rates are negotiable... ie - they have the space and if you were to stay the whole time, why not knock something off? All they can do is smile and say no. There is a small strip of buildings across the street that is composed of mainly shops facing the street and restaurants out back. If you walk down the little alleys to get to the restaurants there are rooms for rent back there. Also, there are a number of rooms with aircon for rent in the soi at the base of Patong Tower (the only high-rise in town) Smile Inn was one and Sweet Apartment is above Sweet Restaruant. unknown if GF and definitely no pool facilities but the beach is across the street. I think the Breakpoint restaurant had rooms above it as well. Maybe a course of action... since the hotel didnt seem to care how long you stayed. Stay a couple of nights at someplace then cruise around and see where things are. They give out free maps that have all the hotels on them. Find something you like, move there. Priceline sucks and should have gone out of business a long time ago... the hotel you speak of is 5 star. Very far away from Bangla and from what I have heard joiner city and expensive. Yorkshire Inn didnt look bad nor did C&N... not on the beach but you probably wont be going to the beach every day anyway... and there are thousands of TUK TUK to take you to beach if you dont feel like walking. The Swiss Hotel looked cool and is a short walk from the beach and a really long walk to Bangla. If calling Tropica or any other hotel for that matter, take into account the time difference. The night staff doesnt speak English too well... make sure you call during the day. I personally liked the Bungalow experience because it had a little porch where you could sit and relax with your friends. I was tempted to find cheaper digs but didnt feel like moving all my stuff somewhere else and chewing up time to do it etc. Your mileage may vary on these suggestions. Oh, BTW everyone is right about another thing here. Having a car in Phuket is a liability.... you dont need one and there is no place to park anyway. Cheers, Loknar

Nokna, I have researched several sites looking for hotels in Phuket. Planet holiday, siam.net, asiatravel, phuket.net, to name a few. The prices were very dear for 4* hotels in the Karon beach area. I was thinking that using priceline may get me a better price. I'm not lazy Nokna, I was just hoping that some of the fellow members would help with some pointers. I'm sorry to trouble you with my queries......

Just my advise... Book your flights, have a few names in mind and drive to Patong. Those who say that you can not find a room, plenty available, even into the high season. Negotiate the rate and have a look at a few places before confirming your stay. At present Patong is over supplied by rooms in any price range. Many newer properties around 200 Pee Road and Nanai Road with very decent accomodations for around 1000 B.

Hi Jagsbb, Watch out for Priceline and Phuket. A buddy booked and got the Marriott which was very far from Patong but was a great hotel. The link below is for the winning bids from the Priceline Hong Kong site. It lists the Holiday inn as a hotel in Patong which I hear is not guest friendly. There may be others as well and you can't pick the hotel only the area. http://pub143.ezboard.com/bpricelineasiadiscussions

jagsbb I recently had a week in the Sunset Beach Resort, its a 5 min tuk tuk ride back from Bangla, they run a one way bus FOC upto 9pm. I had a mini suite 2400bhat inc breakfast (only managed to get up in time one time ) and 1 hour on the net each day. Make sure you book a double, and there will be no joiners fee. They do cheaper rooms as well.
