Wondering if anyone can help with information on the "girl friendliness" of any of the following hotels...
i.e. what is the joiner fee, if any? Can you bypass reception somehow if neccessary?
- Burasari Resort
- Baan Yin Dee Resort
- Avantika Boutique Resort
- Diamondcliff Resort
- Novotel
- Holiday Inn
Any help appreciated

Stayed at Novotel quiet a while back, was Guest Friendly then but was over 3 years ago??

Besides the Diamond Cliff which is a 5 star hotel in the Villas category and the Novotel which is a decent 4 star, I don't see a reason to call the other hotels in the list "Upmarket Hotels".....they are classified between 3 and 4 stars and they all charge the joiner fee, when double room is not reserved.....

I stayed there in September, but brought my own. Best guess it is not guest friendly. Mostly Japanese tourists. Having said that it was an absolutely wonderful hotel. Great rooms, pool, location and staff

I've stayed at the Burasari, Baan Yindee and the Avantika.
The Burasari is definitely NOT girl friendly. They have a joiner fee of 1,000 bht, and they make it clear when you check in that bargirls are not welcome. I was able to negotiate it down to 500, but it set a very negative tone for the entire stay there.
The hotel itself is very nice; good rooms and a nice pool, but I found the staff to be very uppity. If you are bringing girls back, I would discourage you from staying there.
Baan Yindee has a very lax attitude about girls, which is surprising for a hotel of its size (very small, only 20 rooms). It's owned by three Belgians who understand that this is Patong and even the clientele that stays at a nicer place like theirs is interested in having a little fun. No problem bringing them in and no joiner fee. I wouldn't recommend keeping the girls around for breakfast/pool time, however (this goes for just about anywhere). Just too many couples and older folk who are apt to look at you with disdain.
I loved the Baan Yindee. Rooms are nicer than the Burasari and the staff was terrific. Only pain is getting up and down that big hill.
Avantika is very expensive but also girl friendly for the most part. I think their attitude is that if you are spending that much money, you are entitled to do as you please. No joiner fee and no problem checking them in. The rooms are absolutely gorgeous, probably the best in Patong. You can't hear a thing around you in your room; tremendously well built place. Great views of the Andaman. Pool is a little smallish but very intimate. If money is no obstacle, this is the place to stay.
For $90-$100 a night, the Baan Yindee wins top prize for value relative to niceness of hotel, friendliness of staff, welcoming atmosphere, etc.
Haven't stayed at either the Holiday Inn or Novotel but I understand both are not girl friendly, particularly the Holiday Inn...
Good luck, let me know what your experience is at whichever place you choose.

I forgot to address the second part of your question--there's no way to circumvent security/reception. All three hotels have 24 hr. security, and this is the thing they look out most for.
I learned this first hand at the Burasari--I had a room with a patio that opened up almost on the street in front of the hotel, well before the registration desk. I thought I'd try and be sly, and left the sliding back door open with the thought that I could take the girl through there and not have to pay the joiner fee.
Of course, when I arrived back, security was out front, with walkie talkies to communicate with the front desk. I went ahead and tried it anyway and walked thru the sliding door and into my room. Not 10 seconds later there's a knock on the door, and the security guard is telling me that I need to bring the girl to reception...and of course, I'm greeted by a not-so-happy look from the clerk.
A good thought, but I'm afraid they are onto all the tricks of the trade...

I have stayed at The Thara Patong Resort in the past which seemed quite guest friendly if you booked a double room. They even give you two coupons for breakfast. However, I hear a rumor that there is now an extra guest fee?
By the way, walking around Patong last evening it looked like there were still thousands (yes thousands) of young lasses looking for a partner; although many of the TG's on a chaps' arms seemed to the the more beautiful one's -- or so my girl friend opinioned.

I had my first trip to Patong in November, I think I got lucky with my choice of hotel.
I stayed at The Sunset Beach Resort, its not in the middle of the action but the have a bus that runs every half hour and drops you off on Bangla, its a 7/8 min tuk tuk ride back.
I had a nice suite with a sea view, huge bed, nice balcony, if you like to swim there is a great pool, and the staff were fantastic!
Most importently, it is girl friendly as long as you book for 2 people, no joiners fee, you will be told by security there is an extra charge when you get back late with you honey, but just tell them you have paid for a double room and they will check there list and let you in.
