Hi Bros,

Loknar & are planning LoS Episode II and were wondering about conditions on Phuket in June. We have heard both good and bad especially bout the weather.

As for the BGs when we were there last in November it was great. Lots of talent and no attitude, the prices were good 200 BF & usually 1000Bht or less for LT. Since Nov is closer to the start of the season we wondered if the rates might rise in June and more of an attitude might develop among the girls as the season ended. When we were there we only had good experiences but we've read about others on the forum that ran into some sass.

Again many thanks to all for your great help in the past.

By the way I forgot to ask, has the SARS or bird flu propoganda had any affect this year on prices or tourist volume in Phuket?

Thanks Bros!

don't worry about things.
i normally went in June and as it is low season Hotels will be cheaper.
plenty of Girls around, way too many for you and Loknar to buy a drink for.
never found any difference in drink or Girl prices between June and other Months.

also never found any real difference in the Weather, some days will be hot and sunny with no rain, others will be hot and sunny with rain.
the last time I visited in June there were showers most days (mainly at night).
but my friend was down for a week and we had nothing but sunshine for the period,no rain at all.
as soon as he left it pissed down for 14 Hours.....

have a good trip.

ErikE,

No big difference between June and July, both considered low season in Phuket, so neither is more or less expensive.

Like Nokna points out, weather is virtually the same too. You'll be fine with either month.

I'll be back again this July... Personally, I like going during the low season - less customers, cheaper, plenty of girls... The only drawback is the beach, which has rough surf during those months. In order to solve that problem, I booked a few days in KS (where the water will be calm at that time) so I could enjoy some swimming and jetskiing.

Thanks again for the info guys. BTW how's the BG scene in KS that time of year? I know there is less opportunity in KS than Patong but I was just wondering. I like diving and I've heard that the water can be cloudy on Phuket that time of year.

The best days for me on my vacation start diving in the ocean and ending diving on Bangala. Thailand is truly a paradise.

can someone please tell me which places are the best for diving?? I am going to be a budget backpacker in Thailand and thus don't want to pay a huge huge price, but then again I don't want to die either. What is the safet like in all prices ranges of diving and are the low budget diving companies safe??

also, can someone please tell me what I do with my valuables when I go diving, and what I do with my valuables when I go snorkelling on the islands?? I am very worried about these facts as I want to take beautiful photos of the islands and possibly video camera footage but also want to enjoy the water.

sugeshotcha so for driving on Phuket I had no problem but if you have never been to Thailand before it takes a couple of days to acclimate. Don't do it day 1! Even crossing the street seemed harrowing day 1-3.

After that I drove with my dive instructor on the back of his scooter one night and felt better about it. And I am a guy that used to own 2 motorcycles and I drove them for years in the states. After a few days though my fears abated and I got on a scooter in Thailand. First time on a two wheeler for me in 10 years.

Couple of pointers though:

1) It is the wrong side of the road for Americans.
2) This matters more when stopping, turning and merging than when driving.
3) There were over 10,000 traffic deaths on the Island of Phuket last year. Don't drive drunk, death is likely if you are messing around.
4) I found the scooter rentals on beach road reputable and decent. They will try to get teh best price like anyone else so expect to pay $5-$7/Day during mid to low season for a decent scooter. Gas is cheap in these things. I got a clunker one time but brought it back the next day and they gave me a new one no problem. They will ask for your passport to hold. You would be high to give it out. They won't do anything with it but you need it and they want security, just offer your european or American driver's lisc. They will take that and it is fair.

As for you kit while diving if you rent gear that place will generally have a locker at the shop for you to lock stuff up, or if you are on the boats you are totally safe. The beach is really taking a chance don't leave stuff there is is just too great a temptation. I know a really sweet BG that lost her emoney and phone the day after we left. She didn't ask for anything I just heard it through another friend. She said the police were no help and you can't blemae them given the list of suspects on the beach.

Patong is worthless for snorkeling I here that Kata Beach has a reef just off it that is great but I didn't make it I just went down to see the town and hang out. All the dive shops can hook you up though.

I didn't backpack I stayed in a bungalow and the office had safes I left my $4000 laptop and $300 digital camera in my room with some cash (most in safe in lobby) and had no problems over 15 days. I am not recommending doing this I can just attest to the wonderful staff of the Tropica Bungalows on Patong.

On the whole I found Thailand to be the safest place I have ever been on earth. I am pretty well travelled but I don't take stupid chances either. If you are off the beaten path that's fine but make sure someone knows where you are going and if possible let your Thai friends give you some help or a few pointers.

If you leave your stuff laying about outside it will probably walk off I am guessing. Also watch your pub tabs when you go out I have heard they can be padded, but I didn't ever experieince this. In fact Thailand is the only country I have ever been to where they ALWAYS gave me the right change.

Oh diving:

http://www.seaworld-phuket.com/ these guys are pros and they can hook you up with all sorts of different tours and places to go to. Ask for Lolo. BTW the Similans are really cool. Euro Divers has great tours and day trips as well.

Hope this helps!
