The thing about mongering is, you need a good base to operate from. Not for me any of these cramped and sh_tty digs on soi bangla, nanai and san sabai. Those are meant for the riffest of the raff and they are welcome to it.
I prefer a nice resorty place on the beach that don't cost too much, which I can actually use as a chill out place during the day and not just a f_ckhovel.
Baan Boa Resort exceeded my expectations on this trip.
It is smack on Patong Beach, about 200 metres down from the Ocean Plaza on Patong. Check them out at:

I loved this hotel for the money. It is fairly new, everything works, tv reception, water flow are fine. The beds are awesomely comfortable and all the rooms have split aircons.
The hotel is a three storey, three sided structure built around a free form pool.
The rooms on the ground level around the pool are the coolest. (I would recommend rooms 205/206/207/208/209.) In fact, from Rm 206 and 207 you can see the beach through the uncrowded hotel lobby.
Every day I would despatch the lovely from the previous night with a crisp 1,000b bill. Then slide open the full length windows and admire the pool just 2 feet outside my room. Then just sit there reading, watching tv, ordering room service, ogling other guys' ho's. Till it was time to get on a motocy and hit the bars on Bangla. Only 20b for motocy and when you bring girls back, get her to sit behind you on the motocy so you can feel her nipples boring holes in your back.
There are 3 Baan Boa's scattered around Patong. BB1 and BB2 are more inland and do not come with the suffix of resort.
Caveat: The hotel can get antsy about joiners if you don't get a double at the outset. They have all kinds of clauses like a 300b joiner fee per night and x baht surcharge for a sea view etc.
I am happy to report that none of these draconian rulings was invoked during my stay. Every night when I sailed home with the days catch Id tell the guard, "book room for 2 person" and he'd just grunt.
The only negative, and one that I can certainly live with, is that there is no inroom safe....just a row of lockers opposite the front desk, monitored by CCTV, they give you a key for the duration of your stay and you operate it yourself. I couldn't bring myself to stash my cash there although it was fine to keep things like passport, tickets etc.
Prices? Most decent hotels were charging ridiculous prices, 2,000/3,000 and above which I thought was not right during what is supposedly low season.
BB Resort cost 1,200 for the first night because I booked through the airport travel agent, but subsequently I negotiated a rate of 1,000b per night with breakfast.
For that ridiculously low price, it is impossible to find a hotel with all the attributes of BB Resort. Period.
I realise this has turned into a hotel FR now, but reports of further exploits wil follow shortly once I compartmentalise them in my head. There's a lot to digest 
A well rested and pampered monger gets more mongering done than the others. And that is what BB Resort helped me achieve on this trip.

Here a reaction from the riffest of the raffs...... Have a look further than your imagination. If you classify this as better than anything to be found in the area you submiss.... Go figure and try again....
Many other places to be found in this time of year with great prices and more and better facilities than BB's..

Arthur, take it from a guy whos been there less than a month ago.
Sure, you can find better hotels than BB Resort, but at that price point (1,000b a night), there was nothing better while I was there. In fact, they could've charged 1,500-1,800 for the same room and gotten away with it! The others do.
These non-native english speakers like manuel dont read...and then just shoot their mouths off for the heck of it.
