First of all my sincerest condolences to the families who lost loved ones and to the Thai people who have been affected !!!!
I am scheduled to arrive Jan 28th, and have a reservation at the Hilton. Forget about the cost of this hotel (using points), is it a dump, is it OK, is it good...and I am only talking about the hotels level of comfort and infrastructure. They say that they are fully operational.
Second question is in regards to the overall infrastructure of the whole area. How badly has transportation been affected? Restaraunts and clubs shut down? Normal commercial operations at the airport?
I have read all the news reports but I know the information here is better.
Have considered changing my plans to Hua Hin, but I thought I would pose my quandry to this community. Your responses are appreciated.

Sorry you feel that way. As I am flying around the world, I don't want to become a burden if the local infrastructure cannot support tourism. Secondly, I don't want to take my business elsewhere if the situation does not warrant it. I don't agree with your reply (or better yet I don't understand it), but sometimes words on a board don't carry the same meaning as if they had been spoken.

I do work closely with the Hilton Phuket Arcadia and I have several of my clients there in these days....the hotel is running 100% of its operations, no damages, most of the front beach and surrounding areas have been already cleaned up......sure, feelings are not high, but in terms of regular hotels services, all is fine as confirmed also by my staff in Phuket.
By the time you'll be there, things should be "almost" back to the normal......

I spent 5 nights at the Arcadia on points in the first week of january. The hotel is superb, the service great and it is completely undamaged by the tsunami. I recommend it to anyone. If you go on points it is one of the best HH points deals going.

In the past did not think highly of this property. The level of service my have been down due to the ongoing renovations after Hilton take over. I am currently staying here and level of service is top notch. As a Diamond member have been treated very well. Great room. Beautiful property.

Personally, I love the Arcadia Resort Hotel. The place provides a very luscious & tranquil atmosphere. I have stayed at the Arcadia 3 times and plan on staying there again on my upcoming visits.
Rooms- Very comfortable. I like the deluxe rooms because they have an excellent beach view. The rooms are immaculately clean (as you would expect in a 5 star hotel). The bathroom deserves special recognition. They are nice & big, have a good tub and a stand-up shower chamber with fantastic water pressure. The room has all the basic amenities (safe, ironing board, TV, etc...) Very nice Thai wall decor. Overall, a very nice room...
Hotel Restaurants - I think they have 5 or so restaurants (all very good). My favorite is the San Marino. A couple of the restaurants are very expensive though. All of them have shown me superior service along with some very sexy hostesses. They have an excellent breakfast buffet.
Hotel grounds- The hotel is massive and the grounds are unbelievable. They really took their time to try and make it perfect. They have waterfalls and flowers all over the place (it really smells good with the fresh ocean breeze and tropical flowers). The pools are also very nice. I really enjoyed spending my time relaxing in this grotto they built under one of the big waterfalls.
Hotel amenities - they have one of the best massage places. It costs 1100 baht though, but well worth a visit in my opinion. They have a sauna, gym, snooker, ping pong, tennis, internet, etc... The gym could stand for some improvement - very small.
The staff - They always had smiles on their faces. It was really nice to come back from a hard night of drinking in Patong and be welcomed back by the staff. They really make the place.
Transportation to Patong - It is about a 12 to 15 minute ride to Patong (200 Baht to get there and 300 Baht to get back). It kind of sucks. I hate riding in the tuk tuks down the bumpy, swurvy, up & down roads. But... its not all that bad considering the hotel.
Personal note - The Arcadia is definitely more couples oriented, but I think the hotel is worth a visit. Generally I stay at the Arcadia the first few nights (in order to unwind and relax) and then I move to a cheaper hotel in Patong closer to the action.
