My company is sending me to Phuket for three days at the end of January. Normal procedure is for the company's travel staff to book hotel rooms, but I can indicate which one I want. Has to be Patong and upscale for business purposes, but which one (s) are girl friendly? The company always books a double room, so I'm not worried about joiner fees, just want to avoid a hassle with hotel security.
I searched and read the relevant threads and know where to check which hotels are functioning, but not sure about the GF factor- been years since I was in Phuket.

Post Tsunami, you will find that most Hotels are girl friendly, at least in the near future. The hotel that I was staying in, the Leelawadi Boutique Hotel, had a clear statement in the room folder saying that there would be a joiner fee of 500 baht for guests staying overnight. When I brought this up with the reception on the first day before leaving the hotel for the evening's activities, they told me that there would be no question of charging me anything for a "guest" staying with me. I also had a free upgrade to a VIP pool view room, whereas when I booked a couple of months ago, I had a room facing the rock at the rear.
The point is, they were shit-scared that if they caused any problems, I would go elsewhere.
Don't forget, they went from the peak of high season, to the depths of low season within 24 hours.
Naturally nobody is happy about the reasons for this change, but you are now a valuable commodity. Everybody is fighting for your business, girls included. So before you choose your Hotel, ask them whether it will be a problem, you bringing "guests" back to the room to stay overnight. I don't think so.

Patong area, upscale hotel...in these days???
Hard choice....the best ones like the Amari and the Holiday Inn have been damaged and they are both 4 stars....actually there is no real 5 stars hotel in Patong area...the closest one is the Meridien Phuket Beach Resort, but close til April 2005.....have a look in Kata or the Laguna area....

I have to agree with HJ that upscale hotels don't charge any Joiner fees. Stayed at Deevana Resort and Spa (Evil, this plushy resort might suits you too) and had a short discussion with one of the receptionist at night. After his colleague interrupt him, I was free to go and had no problem anymore the following nights. If you stay in a deluxe room at Spa wing, you can skip going trough repception anyway or you can pick up your key and let your TG wait in front of your room. Very easy too.
I stayed at Deevana from january 4 till 8 and had a room with private spa (cold water though) outside and direct access to the swimming pool. Great Breakfast buffet and attentive service overall. Paid 2500 bath a night. But standard rooms will be significantly cheaper and seems to be ok too. Will definitely stay there again next may since I am hunting for the receptionist.

I've found that all upscale hotels list a joiner, though some are willing to wave it.
Asianatic, note that the fact sheet for Deevana says no visitors at all! Clearly girl-friendliness depends on competition.

Paradise Seeker, Maybe Deevana's fact sheet says "no visitors at all" I just speak for my own experiences and had no problem at all to bring a TG inside after the minor discussion I had the first night.
Perhaps it would have been a different story if the resort would have been full of guests as it usually is this season. Now however, very few guests are in.

Stayed at Club Bamboo. See if you can get the Penthouse suite. It's about a k inland and is a 100 baht motorcycle ride to Soi Bangla. Did not have any GF problems. Nice king size bed and a jucuzzi in the room. Very friendly staff--check out clubbamboo.com.

great place, on beach, book a double and no joiner fee, just leave her id...however they were tsumanied,
