There used to be a whole crew of Alaskan fishermen who worked a season then spent the profits in Phuket. Some of them are still resident there.
There was one, a young lad, named Marshall, used to attrct trouble wherever he went, once got into an arguement with a girl, broke her arm, once got into a big fight with the local taxi drivers...lost...., think the others refused to bring him again.
They are still there, one I see whenever I visit, look hard enough you'll find them.

Those fishermen (.as all non Thai) not allowed to fish inside 45 nautical miles off the coasts....strange...
Never heard of foreign fishermen on Phuket Island...
Then again deep sea fishers may recide on same island
and why not...nice place...use to be atleast

Good, know a couple of pro-fishermen from the extreme
North part of Norway going down to Phuket after season. They support the local Thai bar cash boxes
spending a lot the first two weeks before their stamina
reduces. Self have high respect of all fishermen and their
down to earth and sometimes daring lifestyle.

will becoming in september to spend the winter. looking to do alot of golfing and alot of nothing but relaxing. is there any place that basketball is played on a regular basis? gyms? outdoor courts?
what should I expect to spend on nice 1 bed room apt?

From my observations here, basketball is not a very popular sport in Thailand.
I have never seen anyone playing it in Phuket, not even school children who have basketball hoops erected in their schools. They prefer to play football (soccer) and that game where they kick a wicker ball over a net like volleyball.
