The last two trips I've made to Phuket I've found myself paying 200 baht per day for rental of an automatic scooter. Well, once I got a few days for 150 but there were some mechanical problems and the guy reduced the rate on the replacement scooter. First, can anyone recommend a good scooter place near patong any cheaper than this? (adds up after 2 weeks you know! and I like to reward the low cost supplier with my business). Also, has anyone ever seen a scooter rental near to the airport? I always thought that would be a good idea, sure it would take a while to get to Patong, but the minibus does the "change cars/sell hotels" routine anyway, might not be that much longer timewise - and on the way back it would almost surely be faster than the multi-stop minibus and cheaper than a taxi. Cheers, Robaht

You obviously travel very light, if you can get your luggage loaded onto a scooter.

Surely you would be better off with a Scooter and side car?? If there isn't one it would be a great business.... Not Bash Edited thought: Maybe you could contact an english teacher and get him to meet you with a Bike, they are always short of cash and could do it inbetween sucking cock down at the docks for extra cash...

Yeah, I try to travel pretty light, especially down to Phuket. I take a medium sized backpack or duffel bag and store the rest at the hotel in BKK. That way I don't need to check any luggage and just buy the few things I need in Phuket, or drop my stuff at a laundry. He he, I think I'll pass on the sidecar... cheers, Robaht

I would stick with the airport mnibus for 150 Baht to Patong, this takes about 1 hour and normally you don't have many drop off points. A another option is the new meter taxis on the airport for this you have to walk from the terminal building onto the carpark ( keep left ) where you will see the taxi stand. I don't know the price but it is somewhere between the minibus and airport taxi. Better forget the scooter if you want to give a penny for your live, specially if you don't have experience riding a scooter in Thailand.
