C&N is the usual cheapcharlie suggestion. I'm considering Blue Sky for next trip (phuket.com/bluesky) b/c I can easily afford the best room there! And an email from them says "overnight guests are welcome and there is no extra charge"

Skip the Expat... cheap as hell but the towels are "ripe" (they smell, even when freshly laundered). The pool is ok and some bar-girls occasionaly pop by to use it, but they never get the chlorine right and you'll end up with an ear infection. Oh, and the food is crap.

I had a beer at the bar in front of the Expat. Took a glance at the place and decided to cancel my reservation. Plus, the soi leading down to the Expat was all gutted out and miserable looking.

i found the Ex-Pat OK 2 Weeks ago.
satisfied my needs,after all I was only sleeping and f***ing there.
rooms were small though,even though not a real problem.
didn't really care what the Soi leading up to it looked like,i was not sleeping in the Street...
oh and never used the pool,better things to do than waste time sitting by a pool.

Ahhh how things change
I remember 8 years ago that soi was alive and kicking, live music all up and down it, more women than you can shake a shitty stick at.
And you could get a BBBJ at the Blue Moon Bar for 600 plus a Heinie.
But that is progress and the Bald hair plugged wanker that owns Tai Pan is expanding his empire, so don't expect things to get any better soon.
Bythe way the Masaman curry in Expat is the best thing on the menu, especially at 4am.... apart from that is is a dive.....

After two nights, I can concur that Stoney Monday is a good place, girl-friendly, cheap - papa (owner's father) is also real nice. I do wish they had a lift, but oh well.
