Became time that taxis were being operated without the TukTuk scam..

Someone told me that a long time ago there were pirates in these waters around Phuket. Now they drive tuk tuks !!! It's so typical of the local government to bow to the the slightest pressure from any group that protests, like the recent attempt to fix the price of fares for tuk tuks. They're the most expensive public transport per kilometer than anywhere else in Thailand. I say it's about time to hold the line and get rid of them all and replace them with modern air conditioned cars with meters. Too bad there's currently only 5 metered taxis on the roads in Phuket because it's definately an idea who's time has come !!!!

Don't forget that the TukTuk's have to go up hill......they will use a lot more petrol than anywhere else in Thailand.
Something tells me that what goes up the hill has to come down as well.....!!
Maybe a discount for down hill segments???

With out a doubt the Phuket/Patong Tuk Tuk mafia are the biggest daily rip off in Thailand
Please anyone reading this and have experanced it make as many official complaints as possable

only ever got a tuk tuk 3 times in patong and found no problems.
was marooned at phuket zoo and me,Nok and a german couple nabbed opne back to patong.
120 bt for the 4 of us.
jumped into one with 3 girls and travelled to just past the hospital on soi nam yen and it cost 100 bt.
another time i jumped into one from seadragon to end of soi sansabai with 4 girls(i know it's only 4-5 minutes walk) and was charged 70 baht.

Believe me they are a rip of - when you are drunk or a tourist (sorry) they seem Ok but not when you are in the Know
Yes I have had some pleasent surprises from Tuk Tuk's in Patong but not many and I speak enough Thai to get the best prices.
A lot and I mean a lot of people have been charged 6 pounds to move less than 2 miles
and you have said yourself that you sit in a bar having a drink and they will pass and ask you if you want a taxi - There is stupid and then there is Patong Tuk Tuk drivers
I hate them and there aggresive ways
I have been to BKK a few times and was so happy to get the price at the end of the day and in Hat Yia I was embarressed to apy the low fee asked for, for a 20 minute journey (10 Baht)

Let's not forget that when a meter taxi arrives at a destination to pick up a fare it's standard operating procedure for the red deviled bandits to block entry to their customers request to be picked up or to outright threaten the legitimate metered taxi drivers !!! But as has been proven for years if the tuk tuk pirates were forced to make an honest living they would simply resort to other petty crimes by the thousands !!! TIT !!!

i don't doubt they can be a rip-off for tourists,drunks and espiecally the japanese.
just that i have never experienced it.
am usually with a local and they negociate.
and when i'm drunk at the end of the night,only 5 minutes walk to the hotel.
i normally use the motorbikes.
