Plans have changed and Phuket is the venue for a week from the 21.2
Am looking to spend around 2-3k maximum per night.
Must be very near beach, with a pool and walking distance to Bangla - decent hotel and gf/tg friendly
Wi-Fi
Any recommendations - not looking for anything trapped in the 1980's

Look at some of the Boutique ones, not all have Pools but location & GF usually no problem. Try Nicky's Handelbar who have just open a cool themed Hotel, Baipho/Baithong is always great as is the Album.
Also the Yorkshire Inn is fine!

Nicky's is "themed" yes, you got to be a Harley guy to get along with that theme... I'm a BMW guy... hehe
Baipho had very nice rooms. But I had a nasty argument with Boss Rudi lately so Baipho is off the list for me...
Will check out the Yorkshire... tks...

Baan Boa is what you want. http://www.agoda.com/asia/thailand/phuket/baan_boa_resort.html Across from the water on the nice quiet S end of the beach. Haven't stayed there in 3 or 4 years. I think I used to pay 1200B for it. 2X that now, but in the giant rip-off-machine of Patong it's a good deal I suppose. Say hello to my Oz mate Peter at the Beach Bar nearby. You'll walk by it a lot. Maybe a mile to Bangla, but a nice walk as long as you stay on the beach side and the f*** away from all the obnoxious Indian tailors. After 100 yds I want to punch the next one. C & N Resort is great, but up on the hill and a bit out of the way. ps: The Patong Lodge used to be real good too. It's at the N end of the beach and a little closer to Bangla. It's got a sweet little cove across the street too. Maybe check with TripAdvisor to see how they've been maintained. http://www.agoda.com/asia/thailand/phuket/patong_lodge_hotel.html.

Oh yeah, I forgot the Sunset Beach Resort at the N end (next to Patong Lodge) in Kalim. Best of the lot, beautiful rooms, huge pool, and across from that sweet little cove. Balconies are 90 degrees from the water though. Lobby is in a different building from the rooms, so you can sneak girls in no prob (don't know if they're GF or not.
