Every year I visit Phuket for holidays. Only Patong area. This year I am going with my family. Having in mind some other beach to stay at, what about Kata or Karon. I have been there once and only for a short swim. Could you please tell briefly about nightlife in Kata and in Karon. Where are more bars/oil massages in Kata or Karon?

From what I remember very few and simple beer bars in either of them... No massage shop known for extras that I know of... :no: But this is Thailand, amazing Thailand, so it might be possible anywhere but not so funny to search for it...
I enjoyed Karon beach (Marina hotel) with family and managed to escape from time to time to Patong for a lil extra... A motorbike (small) helps to escape, Taxi is a pain for the rate...

At the back of Karon in Patak Road there are a number of small Beer Bars in the sub Soi's but it's not Patong or even Kamala. Kata also has a Beer Bar Area (been a long time between drinks there!) but not 100% sure how good.

It may just be a shopping Area as there is a large Market along the Water Front road?

... as noted by others above, Kata and Karon are more quiet... assuming 'family' includes kids, Kata Noi Beach is a great environ for family, and the roadway does not separate the resorts from the beach... a quiet, family-oriented beach, Kata Noi Beach is just past the promontory anchoring the southern end of Kata Beach.
... located there, Katamanda Resort is one of the first western-style hotels in Phuket... there are a few others there now... minutes away (just over the promontory; maybe 1/2 km) from Kata's restaurants and nightlife (such as it is).

One thing that is not quiet around Kata & Karon is the traffic, in the Afternoon's it can be a real bitch from around 3pm to 7 or later. The Roads are narrow & very busy in the high season & particularly on Weekends!
