Was in Phukett last year, and Pattaya this year for diving. I have determined that it is always a good idea to book Diving, and then get recommendation from the Dive Shop in your conversation or email with them regarding the hotel. They are there "on the Ground"

In addition to latesays the taxi drivers will stop at numerous travel offices and get some great deals....Phuket has few dive resorts like other dive places in the world, most certainly because there is much non diving events to offer!

I stayed at the Summer Breeze in soi saen sabai, you cannot get much closer to the action and still have reasonable peace. Highly reccommended and very friendly, both with staff and for bringing back VIP's. They have 3 room types, standard 900b, superior 1200b and suites for 1600b, but you can get these down a little. I stayed in the suite and they are very nice, clean and tidy for the price, 2 tv's a small lounge etc. There was no need to book as it was not so busy, but in high season it may be worthwhile, not sure if these prices are high or low season.
