Hi,
I'm on a bit of an extended holiday in South east asia. I spent 3 days with a BG a few weeks ago while in Bangkok. Came back two weeks later and spent a really enjoyable week together.
When I told her I was planning on coming back for Thai New Year, she told me that she (and some of her friends - all of which I've met) were planning on going to her home town up north to spend New Year with her Family.
She suggested that I could come along. I've decided that I will.
So my question is, is there any tips or advice on meeting the family of a BG?
How am I likely to be presented to her family? Some perv. who comes to her bar (her family know where she works) or as a possible future husband?
Am I nuts meeting the family of BG I've known a month?
Any advice appreciated.

More likely to be presented as a boyfriend / possible husband than 'some perv who comes to her bar'.
Might be an OK trip. Be prepared for a lot of sitting cross-legged on the floor. They don't seem to like chairs much, them upcountry folks.

2. Will have to give money to BG to give to family 'out of respect'
3. Parents and friends of BG will giggle behind your back at the 'stupid farang'
4. You will be miserable cos no-one speaks english
5. You will look back and say 'how could I have been sooo stupid?'
But if you do go, dont forget the FR...!!!

Done it a couple of times with my (now Ex... RIP baby) Fiance...
On the one hand it is kind of an honour... A BG can only take a farang up country and back to the village a couple of times before she starts to look like a BG and loose woman to the village and so by offering to take you she is showing that she does like your company.
On the down side as mentioned you WILL be expected to pay something to the family out of respect and in general get milked for beers / white whiskey / etc... To be fair my lady was rich and actually gave me money to give to her dad to keep face and the contribution of a few 100 bahts worth of moonshine was about all I put in.. They slaughtered one of only 3 pigs and many chickens to feed me as best they were able and were good people dispite the language barrier.
Discussions with mates who have done the same thing seems like I got off very lightly (but then my girl was A1 and would not take any sh_t from her family over me) other stories I have heard include the 'surprise' marrige (full legal... He was an idiot) and paying through the nose to support a full village party. I guess you will fall somewhere between the 2 extremes.
Ohh and the comments about why do kinda spring to mind... Its hot.. Humid.. no wind.. Mosquitos.. no bars.. no TV.. No english conversation.. etc... I just joined the flow and proved that a Brit can consume white whisky with the best of them (much to thier enjoyment) but handling yourself well with the family may well put you higher up in her estimation (if that matters to you).

and everybody is drunk and wearing the same clothes for 5 days. almost none of the men are wearing shirts.
and there might be shortages or coca cola and marlboros.
bring some whisky bottles from downtown. spey or 100 pipers is sufficient, johnnie red a rare delicacy.
I've done it before, it's a lot of fun and very relaxing. since I didn't have a girl (I tagged along with my friend to visit his wifes family) the local shop owner offered me his 18 year old daughter....
