Hi Bros,
After returning my my first epic trip to LOS, I'm just wondering if there's a explanation for the fact that most of the bargirls I met all hail from the Issan region. Please educate a brother.

The answer to your questions, as to all more complex matters, consists out of a couple of reasons, which at the end result in a 75% Isaan Bar Girl ratio.
Isaan is famous for farming, and other "low class" activities, especially the girls, and evermore since 1997, dont find enough jobs.
In the averages Thai social judgement, the people from Isaan range at the very bottom, below only foreigners like Laotins, Burmese etc., the Isaan people themself are aware of this fact as well, which makes them apply for jobs other would not (so easy).
I dont know if this passes scientific research but its my personal experience, every second girl from Isaan has a baby, and that stays "upcountry" with the mother, they need money to support them.

no local jobs, the attitude to do "low "jobs, and the need for cash

Aurum has it right.
Isaan is the poorest part of the Kingdom and the most populous (although you have to take into account that lots of Isaan people registered as living upcountry are actually in Bkk living in slums. 50% of the Bkk population is such (official population c.6 million, actually c.12 million, bad census is because of household registration system. This discrepency is manipulated by the political parties, as the prople living unregistered in Bkk are disenfranchised -- they would have to go home to vote and few do. (Can't afford time away from work). However, a whole lot of their "votes" end up being cast by some local political boss (usually a ganster) fraudulently...
The other factor is that Thai men want light skinned prostitutes and generally regard the darker skinned Isaan girls as unattractive. So, they end up in farang bars etc where farang do not have this prejudice (quite the opposite in fact.)
Back when my wife worked at Nana (Hog's Breath) she was the only central Thai BG there, all others were from Isaan and she couldn't understand a word of their Lao dialect.
Go figure.
The Thai guys' loss is our gain.

Just like the other bros said it is because Isaan is the poorest region of Thailand. Most of the people in this region live from farming, and during some years they can get only out one harvest per year.
There is little money and jobs in this region, many workers are drawn to different areas. It seems that almost any BG is from Isaan, be it in BKK, Phuket, Pattaya or even in Chiang Mai.
As said almost every of these girls have one or two kids to support from an earlier marriage with a Thai, the kids live with her parents and she sends money to them.
As said the Thai prefer prostitutes with light skin and many girls we find attractive are non attractive to them.
But of course also men from Isaan work in different areas in LOS, then as taxi drivers, construction workers or whatever.

i find it diificult to think of any girl i've been with who was'nt from Isaan.
i love them,the darker the better.
on my last trip,my girl had just come back to Phuket after working in the rice fields for 3 months.
she was much much darker then when i last saw her.
but as the posters have said before,the area is poor and working in the bars is the only way the girls can earn good money.
my girl had to go with many men,but she paid for the building of a new house for the family.
i admire and,also feel feel sorry for her.

for sure worth a new thread. i feel that most people coming to thailand first get fascinated by the entire scene here and are happy with any skin colour. after a while and being around many places the taste usually shifts. i have seen it myself. allthough i never liked the real dark skinned ones i was pretty happy with some dark skin. nowadays i mainly only have white or nearly white skinned girls here. once again also a question of education and acceptance to the thai society.

agreed Griffin - also, re the Issarn thing, having travelled pretty extensively throughout the region, you would have to say the folk from Issarn are the most easy going, who like to have a good time / party - and who very much "live for the day" - a lot of very good looking, and white skinned girls, from Chiang mai / Chiang rai, but i've found with them, 95 % " Ngern koo phra jow" - [ money is god ! ]
