Hotel maids and front desk girls are not whores. It is one thing when there is a steady influx of girls heading down from Isaan to Bangkok to get their slice of the farang pie, but it's a totally different matter when the punter wonders if non-P4P, hard-working girls - who made the choice not to sell their bodies - would be more "customer-service oriented" as a result of the calamity that struck the region in December. That is just crass. Not enough girls for you in the go-gos?? What's next, maybe a roll in the hay with a 13-year-old whose mother is only making 1/2 of what she used to? Surely, they should be more agreeable these days!
As regards your second question about stock values - you betcha.

Get a life, who are you to preach whats wrong and right. Like the punter said, that 2,000 baht might make the difference between putting food on the table for her child for that night or going without. How the hell does a maid even survive on a measley wage is beyond me, let alone feed a child. It is their choice if one had to be made, and maybe just maybe, for the sake of ???? they would oblige.
I'm not against it nor for it, but their are many reason why people (inc. maids) do what they do in LOS.
Of course there is no obligation & they can diplomatically decline.
Your are way out of line on your comment on the under-age sex comment.

I have stayed in a few different hotels in BKK, some cheap ones and some a bit more up-market.
In all of the places you pay for service, ie, room cleaned, water placed in fridge etc. So if we hit on the maid's, we would not get the service because they would be getting humped in someone's room 3 floor's up, 555555.
After a day's outing we would come back to a dirty room. hehheee.
Seriously I would not hit on a maid, unless she was a 8 plus, I might no, I would change my mind.
I like to talk with the maid's either in the hallway, at their little work stations or if they are cleaning my room. They are nice ladies just going around doing their job for the pittence they receive in pay.
And if the maid is in the older region, she may have a 25-35yo daughter who want's to meet a farang, you just never never know.
I have found that if you stay in a room for quite a few days or weeks, you get the same maid, so I leave some change or small notes on the pillow for them. Sometimes 20B or 30B and when I return they have removed the money. If I am going through a lot of water, I ask them for the extra bottle and they oblige and does not appear on my bill, I am no cheapy for a bottle of water, but I think they are thinking easy exchange and a few baht for them.
So after a couple of weeks, they may receive 300-500B from me and just gives them that bit extra.
Hey, imagine if we all did it, they would turn up for work in the BMW or Merc, 555555.
So leave the maids alone, there are plenty of girls out hunting for us.

You gotta give sentry a break - after all, he wouldn't mind if his daughter were to get a side-business going, if she finds her allowance a bit on the low side, or his girlfriend deciding to earn a bit on the side to help the family income. Nope, he wouldn't mind it one bit...

They have chosen to work as a maid rather than sell their body. If one wants to "improve their life", maybe it is best done with a tip for their work.

I make it my habit to leave an ashtray with my change and left-over Baht in my room when I check out, with a note (in Thai) letting the maids know that this is for them, and that I appreciate their service during my stay.
I like Barrafish's suggestion, about leaving daily tips as well - I might just do that on my next trip.
Yeah, I agree, much better way to show our appreciation, and to 'help out'.

Maybe you have stayed in hotels where most of the customers are LB's.
Only joking mate, only joking heheheee.
I am sure the maids eye's would have a quick glance around the room once they enter, and they will spot the money and would be quickly placed in their right side pocket. The maids would not let anyone else enter the room until they have had a look around first, 55555. They know the score.
