Ah, if only it were that simple! True in this specific case I don't see that an asian would have any problem, but there IS racism in Asia against fellow asians. Numerous examples immediately come to mind, including here in remarkably tolerant Thailand; Towards Indians for example the racism is sometimes quite blatant. Or even their own countrymen- "Hill Tribes". The list sadly goes on...

I can definitely relate to what you're saying Mr. Joe. Being an Asian, especially with similar features with local Thais can be a big disadvantage in the local nightlife scene. Even my dark coloured US friends can get a welcome smile from bar girls while I am being ignored. This is why sometimes I immediately speak English to let them now that I'm a foreigner - and that's the time they take interest in talking to me...all of them saying I look Thai. However, I get the advantage with non-working girls but that's another story.

that's messed up. why would they ignore you? i would assume that you would blend in more, since you look more thai. i'm guessing they had the following notion: local thai=less money to spend? anyway, hope everything went well.

i share the same problems too. u see, i'm of a small built, dark (especially after my fishing trips) and being an asian too, i'm always being mistaken for a local. worst of all is when u r out having a good time on your own!! the TG just ignore u!!
something i've learn though, is that never speak thai in their presence! even though u understand what they r asking u!! supaporn got a point there too, dress and carry yuorself well! first impressions lasts!
if u r really desperate for a cutie, this is what i'll always do. approach the TG and ask her some silly questions (in English) to start a conversation eg: what time does the club close, how far is my hotel from here, can i borrow your phone to make a local call etc etc, all these question indirectly implies: "I'm not a local guy, u wanna go with me?"

Hmm maybe an input here....
I am always being considered as a Thai by the TGs. As you may know, MP/GG-bar/BB-bar TGs dislike Thai men coz of different reasons. However, for me is a sharp double-side sword that I learned how to manage....
When I go to any MP things are clear to me. I speak right away some Thai with the first man/papasan/mamasan that aprroaches me. I got the premium of few free recommendations and the local fare. Once they realize I am not Thai that's too late. I am on the way to the lift with my cutie after paying the local fare and looking forward my 3 rounds.... Of course, when the cutie realize that I am not Thai they give not a sight of curiosity any more. They start trying to speak in Thai/English as they can and this is the ice-braking issue in my case. By the time we are undressing and, after ordering the drinks, I know how many sisters/brothers she has, who is #1 in the MP and if I am the first "customer" of her working day. Once the maid is gone. I stop the flushing water in the baht tub and proceed to lie to my cutie saying that I don't want her to be tired. That I know how tired is the body massage and so other shit....I start soaping the fresh body and after few kisses we are rolling on slowly. This always works for me and 1.5 hours later I have one telephone number and a nice smiling face saying "....thank you for make me happy...." Of course, during this time I treat the cutie as a real girlfriend, undressing her, folding her clothes, giving her the towel once needed, picking up stuff that may fell down to the floor and so on....and I do follow up my approaches.
Hmm within the beer-bar scene. This is different. I tried to approach the TG I like, depends on my mood, showing a bit of interest but NO THAI WORDS AT ALL. Full English is the key, the time they are discussing if I am Thai or not someone approaches me and after a brief talk I request some advise on the one I like.
Same approach at the GG-Bar.
Hmmmmm CM2 is different. The one I go for should be on my scale/standard. If none of them fill my requirements I just wait for another chance and that's it.
Finally, if you try a Thai-only night spot for medium class up, go ahead and try your Thai. They will love it but certainly the possibilities to get in the circle of normal TG having drinks and snacks is quite difficult. Of course this is not applicable to places which are very well know in gathering bar girls after working hours. Why? Well, you better see how normal working girls look down the KALIS (prostitutes) when they try to approach such a place. Not good. I can tell you that. However, this is not common. The Thai society discriminates the KALIS in different ways. Evrybody has their own ground....
I must confess that I felt asshamed the times I date one well know lady of the brotherhood. Thai people looked at her and immediately identified which is her place in the society the times we have some meals in department stores e.g. World Trade Center, etc.
Anyway, this was too long. Time for a beer....CHEERS!!!!

All black is pretty much my wardrobe for the most part. Black concert shirt, black jeans, black boots/shoes. And on my visits there I never had a problem hooking up with a TG. In fact, as I'm sure most of you can agree with, sometimes I felt I got too much kindly attention. Geez...can't they understand that sometimes a guy just wants to be held???
