I agree w/ ftmuch BUT the problem is why the hell didn't you tell him while he was only a customer? or why didn't you tell him once he started to get committed. Problem is now that you look somewhat guilty for keeping this secret.
However, I still think you should tell him very candidly and defuse it before it blows up in your face. You will need to find a way to apologize (play it up as being distraught about this being so akward and not wanting to make him feel bad) for not having told him already. Also, play it up like it was in "no big deal and you can't even remember it"...blah, blah.
Sooner or later, he will know and you will look very bad for keeping it secret. The real betrayal of friendship is not that you had been her customer while she was working BUT that you had kept it secret as if you had "one on him". He will lose face big time. Very, very uncool.
