It's true that the guy paying for a night on the town is expected in this culture but if a thai girl really cares about you then you will know pretty quickly. If she spends your money liberally on crap and orders the most expensive thing on the menu everytime then you need to quickly reevaluate where you stand with this girl. If you bring up spending issues and she is suddenly "busy" a lot more then you have received your answer. Just about every good thai girl I have dated really knew how to save and didn't want very much from me at all.
The current girl i'm having a real relationship with wants to pay her way more often than not. It's very much a "western" style relationship with her. I may pay for a night out but it's usually very cheap (since we both don't drink) and it's something like a movie and dinner.

Hi all,
My wife (Thai) and I live in America. She has a nice job making incredible $$$$ for thai. She jokes she makes same same as a doctor at Bumengrad (exageration of course!)
She is such a damn mizer over here its ridculous, wont even pay $1.25 for the metro electing to walk 1 kilometer to work and save 50baht. She still calculates everything she buys into baht!
I bring this up because of what Big Beefa proposed. It may be worth a shot if you think you can trust her not to pull a runner.
I did this all the time when we lived in thailand, Of course the big difference was she was my long time GF, 3.5 years. But I found Big BeefA right on, as my GF (who was never a spend thrift) was even more frugal when she could actually save some $$$. (whether Baht or Dollar.)
I wouldnt recommend it at all for some chick you just pulled out of Nana etc, but if you have spent a couple of days with her and 4 or 5000baht is not gonna break your bank, sure give it a shot I would like to hear the results.

I find it extraordinary that a guy who, presumably works all year to save to come for holidays in Thailand, would give up his financial freedom when he gets here.
Let me get this right, BigBeefa. You're going to give her complete control of the budget allocation daily, right? So she will decide where and what to eat, where to go, what to buy? And if you want a second or third beer, then you have to ask her permission to spend your money....
I've heard it all now?
There's a very simple solution to your dilemma. If she asks for something and you don't want to buy it for her, say 'no'.
I would like to apply to your girl for some consulting fees please.

Ok I left out one part, you should not alter what you would normally do. If you want to get shit faced drunk and eat a staek dinner thats part of the 5,000 deal, it was what she would alter that I was interested to see the results.
I agree 100% if this is Big BeefA ultimate budget, you can have a f***ing great time on 5000baht a day alone, I mean f***ing great!!!
so, I was simply curious if it would curtail her spending, notice I said not to experiment on a chick just pulled from Nana, soi cowboy, PP etc.
I simply wanted to live an experiment vicariously through BiG BeefA.

Agree with Yurune 100%. Self respect and not uncommon. As someone posted in another thread, most of the moral values you grew up with 40 years ago still exist and are current in Thai society today.
ATL - Mizer? My wife saves the "cold" water that comes out first when she turns on the hot water tap! It gets used as rinse water and then goes on the garden!
Agree with ATL and others, you want to live cheap get your long term girl to control the money - also agree with Scobie - forget that for an idea on the annual holiday!!! Enjoy.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention that I now live and work in Thailand on Thai wages, I start work at 0500 6 days a week and there is only 1 night a week that I am able to BF her except during the Holiday season where I don't work the Australian Public Holidays and I get to BF her on those days.
I also don't drink alcohol, only soft drink or juice so I don't have a problem that side of things, I also didn't mention that I will have extra cash in my wallet in the case of leaving her and going on my own somewhere, this experiment is to curve her spending so I have more to spend for myself, granted that I don't intend on going on my own very often as most weeks it is for one night.
atl is right, I'll make sure there is no skimping out on our usual activities that we've been doing for the last 3 months.
If need be as I finish work at 1330 during the week I can still go down Soi 6 in Pattaya for some extra action.

Thanks atl, well the experiment will start tommorrow, as being a long weekend I will BF her for 3 Days, I'm still thinking weather or not to give her the full 15 000bht for the 3 days as I do know where she works and lives, what do you guys think?
There is one draw back, everwhere we go, being the falang I will be handed the bill and I think it would look funny handing the bill over to the TG all the time for her to pay the bill.

Thanks, but there are different reasons I have it at 5k firstly this weekend the BF is high, out of that there is a hotel room cost per night (due to circumstances I cannot take her to my room), normaly I would give her 4k for 1 night during normal season and she would have to take out 500bf and 650 Hotel and that would leave 2850 for 1 night's food and entertainment and her payment which may end up lower then she may anticipate.
