In all my years in Thailand, have never had a thing taken. I try to always lock the good stuff up in the room safe, but often things are left out inadvertently. I have inherited a few bracelets, necklaces, and earrings that they leave behind. I usually just give them to the next one to come along. My policy when in pay for play mode is to not repeat.
In the US I did catch an escort from an agency taking extra money out of my wallet while I was in the bathroom. She had already been paid and tipped. She told me she was in a bad way financially. This is the best policy because theft happens everywhere in the US.
Recently my Mum was laid up in a hospital in Texas and sometime during her stay someone stole her credit card and cash from her wallet.
Strangely enough I have never had this problem in Asian hospitals...
