Mel, I'm afraid you are wrong. If you google Yaa Baa you'll fine out that it is worse than just speed, it's Methamphetamine, it's nothing else than crystal meth, glass, etc. the newest and latest in human self destruction. Cheap and relatively easy to produce, so devastating in many countries (USA etc.) Thailand seems to have the lead in producing end exporting it...

Haven't really come across it in my BKK nightlife though. At least I didn't see people using/taking it. I guess alcohol is still no 1.
Funny scene every night in Soi Cowboy: At 8ish the BG line up at a stand outside Country Road club to get their cheap initial boozing for the night... They couldn't stand it without...
I doubt that Thai people of both sex *need* drugs to be ready for fighting - it just makes it easier...

It deadens your pain receptors, so when you get into fights, you don't feel the pain - yeah, makes it easier, until you wake up...
There's more drug taking going on than you'd imagine, unfortunately - a lot of it initiated by farang, and the BG goes along for the ride, until she's hooked, and self-destructs. It was the reason I had to finally cut one of my regulars loose - violent mood swings are usually a good tip-off....

Far be it... but I know enough anecdotal evidence that a lot of first time, or repeat drug use is initiated by farang guys wanting to 'party', and either bringing themselves, or having one of the other girls score the drugs - the usual cocktail of E, coke, heroin, etc... A lot of these girls find themselves under stronger peer pressure to participate (since they are 'paid' to party), and lack awareness of what the consequences are.
Not saying the girls themselves are completely blame free, but you end up with farang idiots who feel that drug use contributes to some great partying (AP comes to mind), who end up being responsible for the beginning of a slippery slope. I guess it comes down to a lack of responsibility, if anything.... sorry, soap box over.

I don't beleive there is much Heroin consumption in Thailand. I would assume that E, K, C are the most comon drugs and in this particular order. Now as to whether farangs are the one pushing thai girls into it, I doubt it. Drugs have been around for centuries and each period of time has had its associated fashionalble drug. C for example has been legal for decades then almost disapear and got back on the scene in the 80s as the ultimate thing (kinda similar as Champagne for booze). E was initialy used by psycologist to ease their patient mind until the doctors themselves realized they could use it as a party drug. And LSD could be mail order purchased on the back cover of music magazine in the 70s.
I have been living here for so long that I have no clue how things are in Europe or US but I would say that drugs are back big time in the nightlife all around the world. It is with sex and money the 3 most powerful drivers of our century. I do even beleive that there is going to be an explosion of drug abuse with all the money being poured into bio research.

By the way, forgot to mention but there is much more ice consumption than yaabaa with the BG. It is much more expensive but much stronger and does not leave any bad smell (Which is the main reason girls get busted).

I can assure you that meth is alive and well in the US. Hard to understand, given how evil the shit is, but that's the truth.
A young person I know very well messed herself up on the stuff and was dispatched to the PI, where she could be put on lockdown at a rehab facility, without adult legal rights to get the hell out of there, as she would have been provided in the US.
After about six months in rehab, she went to probably the finest international school in the PI (or at least the most expensive) to do her last semester of HS. And guess what she got straight back into?
Crystal meth is a huge problem in the PI as well.
Of course, that's why they have so many rehab centers there. 
The girl seems to be over it and is doing much better these days now.
