The thing I find funny is that the day after you buy them a piece of jewelery they go out and get it valued..
Bought the GF 1 baht bracelet next day she say Good you buy very expensive top quality bracelet for me.. shop weigh and tell me, followed by I love you mak mak Loi Ha Ha Ha.

you should add showing it off to all her friends ( I call it rubbing thier noses in it) at the bar or wherever it is she spends her working life. in the short time I have been coming to BKK, I have bought more gold for a girl in that time than any other period of my life. I personally don't wear any gold now, although in my youth I was into the soveriegns etc. I bought a Tg a gold necklace with a 1/4carat diamond for christmas and posted it to her. It arrived and when I came out to see her a few months later, presented her with the matching ring. Not only did she have both valued in front of me, she complained about the low quality of English gold and then when I sacked her ass for mistaking me for a walking ATM machine, threw the lot,plus a Samsung phone in a canal.
My personal opinion is no matter what you give these girls, they only see monetary value and little or none of the affection behind the gift.

None of what I have read in this thread surprises me. This Christamas I brought SGGirl a diamond studded gold heart on a necklace. She wore it Christmas Day and the day afterwards but when she returned to work in went into the jewlery box.
When I asked why, she said that as it did not come with a certificate (as most set pieces bought in the US do) it was probably low quality and not appropriate for a woman in her position to wear. Whilst she appreciated the gift and treasures the thought behind it, any jewlery that she wears must be the highest quality.
Mind you now, she is a senior corperate executive and earns more than I do so I am far from being her ATM. It is just that she believes to maintain her image she can not wear cheaper jewlery no matter how high the sentimental value is.
It truely is a face thing...

The problem with most of these situations is, that the man buys the woman what he likes to see on her, not what she likes to see on herself.
Once you understand that, a lot of what goes on makes sense. The lack of understanding this is mostly the reason for the kind of infantile and moronic outbursts, as demonstrated by Bertyboy...

Rather than try to second guess my TGF in the gold department, I've (on the rare occasion we do this) taken her to the gold shop and let her pick what she likes. She knows enough not to push the budget, and that way she gets what she wants and it doesn't end up in the klong.
