Mr Joe spot on - remember the immortal T I T, anything can be done/made/copied ! To get back to the passport issue, - and these are normally genuine, tho the name may not be, not too difficult to change it in Thailand, - anyway in most cases, the Girl has got the passport done only when she, or in most cases the current boyfriend, has planned to take her overseas - of course often this falls thru, change of boyfriend, trouble with getting a visa etc. - but the have the passport - not too difficult to get, need their family papers, Pic, and 1000 bt then take them out to Laksi, - go back in about 10 days and collect the new passport. -

To change the name for the passport might apparently not be a problem in LOS. I have experienced, that a TG who worked in an MP in my country on a tourist visa got kicked out by the police. Normally this means one cannot return here for a few years. But this TG came back around half a year later under a new name and with a new passport.

It's easy enough to check the passports to see if they've been used for travel. Just check to see if it's been stamped with the triangular Thailand stamp. If not then it's unlikely it was used for travel.
I knew a lot of TGs in Switzerland and Germany, so they certainly used them to travel. And they mainly travelled to earn money.

Bandit - correct, they seem to be able to change names at will !! - likewise I know of a number of girls who have been deported from Singapore/Japan etc for working, but are back a few months later on a new passport, - there is actually an online site, where you can apply for a new Thai surname, often a family will change a name if they consider the current one is bad luck !

Good question. It's used to be all but impossible for them to get changed to a "female" and have the Thai word for "Miss" on thier passport; but I think I've heard it's easier now, though perhaps still difficult.

I have a friend who is a post op katoey...very lovely lass....and I'd say 90% wouldn't spot her....even her bosses didn't know til after the interviews and fellow members of staff took months. She travels all over on business.....and told me that she still must have male in her passport and immigration halls are her biggest fear in life.

I'm surprised there are any Thais flashing around their passports like an ID. Losing one's passport is not a pleasant experience for a Thai. Even worse for a Malaysian, interestingly: if you lose your passport, you cannot get a new one for 6 months!
