K-Man: I just did some quick study on this, so this is what I have found out over the last few days. I know I am leaving some stuff out but here it is... For any Thai person going to the US, they have to show why they are going to the US. They are either going to be going for 1)Work (will need a sponsored H-1B work visa from a US company - takes 4-6 months and tons of hoops on the US company's side), 2)Marriage (you will have to apply for a fiance visa), 3)Student (she will need to apply for an I-20 visa and the girl must be accepted into an educational institution) or 4)Tourist visa (this is most likely for all brothers in your situation). Tourist Visa - The person must prove that they intend to come back to Thailand, they must also prove that they have a stable job, have sufficient funds, and ties to Thailand. This is all required by the US Govt/US Embassy not the Thai Govt. What you would have to do is get her employed at a reputable company (US Emabssy does not look too kindly on Go-Go bars as "reputable" since the girl could very well go to US and never return and find employment in the illegal sex-trade business of the US), you would have to dump enough money in her account to prove that she has a source of income to cover her travels while in US and reason for her to return (not that she couldnt transfer the $$$ if she wanted to), which brings up an interesting dilema, are you willing to dump lets say $10K into her account, even if it is only for a short time? And lastly, you would have to show some flight and travel itinerary on her travel plans. Not to mention that this will all take about 4-6 months or so, where you still may or may not get approval. It's a tough battle my friend, I think the easiest thing to do is the fiance visa or just marry the girl. Or you could fly your friends in from the US (much easier) or what I would do if I was as handsome and rich as you would be to take her on a holiday somewhere else (HK or SIN?) OK, so I know I left out a bunch of stuff and everyone is itching to take their shots, so lets get it over with... Also...Check out this link. TPE gives some good suggestions. http://bkkx.com/cgi-bin/forum/topic.cgi?forum=12&topic=336&start=0

Tyler, You are correct. I have done the wife visa thing for a TG. The paper work nwas worse than any security check I have ever been through and took over a year to do, even with me asking for help from my congressman. The best bet is the fiancee visa and even that will take paperwork and time. Tourist visa is just as you described.

kmanrox Back to your orriginal post. FWIT, I have taken TG to both Singapore and Hong Kong. No visa needed in either place, but you must travel together and you will possibly be asked to show your return flight tickets. Immigration dept. at HK are unlikely to let a single TG in unless she is carrying a good some of money with her. On one occasion I had arranged to meet up with her in HK. I was already there and she was held and questioned for 3 hours. Eventuallly I had to talk myself into immigration from the arrivals side and get her out. Dave

Kman: The difficulty of getting a visa depends on the girl's background Tourist visa is very difficult to get if the girl does not have an affluent background. If the girl is not rich then the fastest way is the fiance visa. One of my friend was able to get his TG to US within 1-2 months through this way. John NM is correct, often, your congressman or senator could be helpful with dealing with state department. My friend was able to call in a personal favor from his senator. It does not hurt he is a big political contributor. Best of luck

MrJoe & Tyler Durdin are right on, good posts. The Fiance Visa is only good for six months at the end you must GET MARRIED or leave. You are only allowed one fiance Visa, so you can't do this every year or six months. On the tourist visa application (DS-156) line 32 asks are any relations US citizens of which one is Fiance. I wonder if this angle would work for a tourist visa. You would be her sole support in preparation for marriage and people are typically engaged for a year or more. You need that time to find out if she's the right one. This is also good docuementation after marriage when she applies for perment visa, if it goes that far. Websites with Visa & Immagration info. http://travel.state.gov/visa_services.html http://www.ins.usdoj.gov/graphics/index.htm I'm currently researching this and may try to bring my TGF in this way for say a year. She is not a BG but just a poor farmers daughter (No Money) this is going to be hard!

kmanrox: As Mr. Joe has pointed out, there is the killer interview, if you want to bring your TG to the U.S. on a fiancee visa. The basic assumption by the U.S. embassy staff interviewer is that anyone who is trying to get a fiancee visa is doing it under false pretense. You and your TG better know each other well enough to tell the interviewer about personal details and habits of the other person. Basically, they assume that you are really trying to bring a TG into the U.S. to work as a working girl. My friend worked for the U.S. Foreign Services and was in charge of issuing U.S. visas in Beijing. He told me that 4 out of 5 visa applications in China were submitted under false pretense and it's similar in other SEA countries so everything gets scrutinized a lot.

CalEden, I think one point of correction on your post. For K-1 visa, they have 6 months from issue to enter the U.S. but once here I am pretty sure you only have 90 days to marry, not 6 months.

Now that you mention it, I think your right. Anyway the time is extremily short and stacks the odds even heavier that the marriage is not sucessful. Sorry about the bad info.
